This. It wasn't his character not fitting it was him not wanting to be a part of it. I did read somewhere that all this pandering to kids and "super" characters weren't his thing. He gets a lot of stick but he is an old school wrestling fan like all of us.
And to the Ryback comparison, Batista is far more entertaining.

I'm actually a Batista fan. Like Arn Anderson he's a man & doesn't like playing kiddie games. And like a lot of men he let his actions do the talking for him. Also unlike Ryback & Cena the fans chose Batista not Vince shoving him down our throats!
This. I liked Batista before he even joined evolution. He was literally the animal in every sense. Personally, he was my favorite in that group, before he was pushed down our throats in his last few years.
