Raising Hope might have more laughs per minute, but I don't think that translated to it being the better show. Ben and Kate was more grounded in reality and thus more relatable, and, for me, that made the sentimental moments pay off better than Hope's attempts at the same thing.

Both quality programs, in my estimation. They just had different strengths.

    ^^^^ I agree with this.

I am a big fan of raising hope as well. But I feel like when I'm watching raising hope, I'm watching a family that loves each other... but it couldn't be my family or really anyone around me... whereas I could imagine being or knowing someone like ben ... or just knowing someone like kate.

As for FOX, I still haven't gotten over what they did to Arrested Development (best. sitcom. ever.), so none of this really surprises me, sadly. Cancelling terrific shows is just what they do. But would we rather they stop making good shit altogether? I don't think so.
hey! hey hey hey! 6 seasons and a movie damn it

Dan Harmon's no longer involved, and the network couldn't care less as to whether any of the series-spanning arcs get wrapped up or not. All they're looking at is getting to the magic number of episodes that's going to start bringing in that syndication money. This next stretch of episodes isn't about finality; it's about people in suits making that cheddar. Hence, people are better off not getting their hopes up.
And for this reason, is why I am hoping Happy Endings is renewed for another season. At the end of this one, it will sit at 57 episodes. My hope is we get two more seasons, giving Happy Endings 100 episodes, which I believe is the magic syndication #. It's that, or shortly before that. Either way, my hope is Sony is behind this show, and they've proven to keep shows around purely to get the # of episodes needed for syndication(Till Death), my hope is we get more Happy Endings

The minimum number now is 88 episodes, or roughly 4 seasons.

I'd like to see Happy Endings keep going as long as it's a creatively fruitful endeavor. But the idea of it, or any show, being drug out simply for the sake of limping across some kind of syndication threshold just doesn't appeal to me at all. People get so fixated on quantity these days that they lose sight of quality, and I can't for the life of me wrap my head around that.

That kind of what happens when you have like 15-20+ episodes per season. Maybe i'm being a bit biased, but I much prefer the British model of shorter series, like 6-10 episodes per season. That way things don't seem to drag and whatnot.

I completely agree, Tom. I'd much rather have a small handful of brilliant television than a mail-sack full of mediocre bullshit. Unfortunately, though, most of my compatriots would prefer the mail-sack.
