A Rather Startling Trend

Have you ever noticed something about Dolph Ziggler? Ever since around late 2010, Dolph Ziggler gets a major push. He'll pick up a couple of victories against main eventers, show off his mic skills and by the looks of things, WWE has there faith in him and he'll get elevated to main event status. But then, at the Royal Rumble, he loses and slowly leaves the limelight and gets put back down to the mid card.

Pre-Royal Rumble 2011: Ziggler feuds with Edge. Gets some pinfall victories.

Post-Royal Rumble 2011: After his loss to Edge, Ziggler gets a 10 minute run with the WHC, loses it to Edge, gets "fired" and back to the mid card.

Pre-Royal Rumble 2012: Week after week, Ziggler is able to beat CM Punk and has all the momentum in the world.

Post-Royal Rumble 2012: Back to the midcard after losing to Punk, gets in a tag team with Jack Swagger and does nothing of main event relevance...until now.

Pre-Royal Rumble 2013: Ziggler is currently involved in a high profile feud with the likes of John Cena, has a scheduled match with him at TLC and has gotten the better of Randy Orton through clean pinfall victories, including a huge win at Survivor Series.

Post-Royal Rumble 2013: ???

Do you think that now is the time that Ziggler ends this trend or will #Heel be grappling it up with mid carders once again? Your thoughts?

Anyone who is getting a strong push after the Royal Rumble usually has a very nice place on the WM card. Maybe WWE's decision makers second guessed themselves in the past about his readiness. I think third time maybe the charm. Either way, I see Zigs holding the title by WM.

That's an interesting trend. I think the money in the bank case will be the difference maker this year. Ziggler is still young so some patience will do him wonders when they finally do give him the run at the top.

I'm sure that Ziggler will be in the WHC hunt come Wrestlemania. He's going to have to break that glass ceiling sooner rather than later really, or he's going to miss his chance.

I hope he has the title going into WM but for some reason I can't see it. I think he will cash in at TLC and lose it at the rumble. I don't maybe a win at WM but I think it will be like Sheamus vs DB or Edge vs ALR and it will be a 30 second match because they don't care about the title. I'm hoping they will move him over to Raw mid 2013 and have a decent run as WWE Champion.

I get the feeling his feud with Cena is to push him over the top and actually make his evetual WHC reign relevant.

Well as I see.Dolph Ziggler will cash it at TLC after losing to Cena, and will feud with Big Show and Sheamus and hopefully finding a way to beat them bothuntil Wrestlemania. Where he will probably end up facing someone like Randy Orton there. (losing most likely too).. Sounds a little like Bryan but I hope he can get some clean wins like has been getting lately.

Well that is how I see it.

As I told my brother earlier this year, the WWE will be getting very interesting for a few years with a lot of changes, because this current crop of main eventers are approaching their slow down years, for the most part. I told him to hold on for some new main event faces and experimental pushes to create that next wave of main event talent.

This is why I didn't think Dolph stayed in the limelight the past couple years because they were not searching for new main eventers yet. I think this time is different. They are slowly letting talent get over on their main eventers.

I've seen it the transition happen throughout my life time watching wrestling. I've seen the Rock N Wrestling era make way for HBK, Bret etc to them being transitioned out for the Rock SCSA etc and them for JBL, Eddie, Chris, Cena, Batista, Orton etc.

It's already happening with Kofi's character being experimented, marketed and tweaked being referred to now as "The Wildcat." Barrett's new look. Miz's face turn. The new is coming in and with talent like the Undertaker, Triple H, Rock, Cena, Jericho etc getting older the new is coming. I wouldn't be surprised in the next 5 years if Wrestlemania and or other ppvs weren't bombarded with Punk, Miz, Kofi, Sheamus, Barrett, Cody, Dolph, Sandow, DB, Ceasaro, Ryback etc and not so much Cena. Every so often a Cena.

It's too bad for talent like Morrison who left to early, cause his chance would have been here in the near future too. He could have been the next big thing.

Morrison would have probably been a money in the bank winner if he would have stayed.. I could have easily seen a feud with him and Miz over a world title and wrestle at a major ppv like Summerslam or Survivor series.
