Have You Been Convinced?

For the past month, the WWE has been subtly pushing The Miz as a babyface. Of course, with his gimmick, it wouldn't be surprising that people would believe that babyface Miz would be impossible an that there was no way he was going to get over as one. Even his Survivor Series ovation didn't seem to convince some of our own member on the chat room during the PPV event. But, this past RAW, Miz had the chance to cut a promo with CM Punk and in my mind, that was it.

That was the opportunity that The Miz needed. Sure, he has great mic skills and all but prior to last night, it seemed that Miz really didn't have a lot of motivation to switch sides or show any sort of credible opposition to the heels except for getting shoehorned in a heavily modified Survivor Series main event with barely any build-up. But now, he's not only had the chance to interact as an antagonist to the king of heels ATM but his execution was (forgive me Laycool) flawless.

Talking smack to the WWE Champion was definitely the right call as it gave Miz main event exposure as a face and from the way he had the crowd in his hand, he couldn't have fit the role better. The chemistry he had with Punk was fantastic and if that doesn't get people behind the Miz as a face, then I don't know what will.

But what do you think? Has WWE made a miz-take by trying to make him a face? If not, has everything done to this point been fruitless as you still think there isn't anything substantial with his babyface run? Or, if you've been a a supporter all along, was that moment with Punk just icing on the cake?

I have never been a huge Miz fan but I didn't like him as a feel, he seemed to be very comfortable in the role so I wasn't sure he'd be any good as a face especially with his gimmick. But I have to admit Miz was on fire tonight so if this is a showing of how he'll be as a face then I'm very interested to see where he can go as a face

I really don't get the gushing over his performance tonight. I'm beginning to think that perhaps I was watching a different show, 'cuz all I saw was a whole lot of pandering, mugging, self-satisfaction, and jokes/insults that people would have bitched about had they come out of the mouth of Cena.

I like Miz a lot, don't get me wrong. As a matter of fact, I was one of his few supporters around here when his first push towards the WWE title started. But even though they've got him going through the motions and doing all of the de facto face turn stuff, it's still just not clicking for me, at least not yet. Dude still needs to dial his inherent douchiness back a couple of notches.

He does the company a great credit with his media work. He performs well in the ring. He is great on the mic, but as a heel he had become irrelevant. He needed to become a face. As a face the wwe can profit from his skill. He can sell himself to the public better as a face and he plays the role well. Amen to that. Heel Miz = entertaining. Face Miz = entertaining AND profitable.

That's the point. Pandering, kissing up to the crowd, childish bantering, those are the general key concept of babyface promos. He wasn't trying to be innovative with his face persona and played it by the textbook and he did it convincingly and with acumen. And the fact that it didn't make me cringe made it so much better.

Of course, maybe if he came across as less arrogant, it'd be even better and the transition would come into full circle but for now, he's basically got it in the bag.

So the guy hits all of the scripted face turn bullet-points that any other person on the roster could have hit, and that's somehow cause for celebration? Sorry, that does absolutely nothing to instill any sort of confidence in me that he's going to be anything remotely special in the role.

And really, not making one cringe shouldn't be the standard for excellence. But then again, maybe that's a testament to the state of things; we as fans no longer demand superlative, as we're just happy to get passable.
