On a serious note Rob, do you know anything about location mines in Aus? I'm a miner by trade and me and the wife have been seriously concidering the move from Uk, but unsure of distance between mining towns and coast line....Agencies tell me its nothing major but I dont trust them lol

From the best of my knowledge, most mining is significantly inland. And that's a pretty brutal place to live. Mind you some people like it. What would you be looking at mining, any preferences there? I definitely encourage you to explore it further as admittedly I know not much about it location wise and this is a truly awesome land. (It even has it's own awesome thread here )

Ulitmatly Im a coal miner but expieranced on pretty much every bit of equipment and theres no much differance in the equipment used in differant mines, Im certainly going to look into more, the only problem is people that sort jobs out at this end have never been over so they talk complete bollocks, Personally I dont mind living inland but I dont want my family there, i want them on coast, In which case commuting would be the biggest thing

I believe that a lot of mining companies will and do fly staff in and out from delegated coastal spots. They do those "12 days on, 8 days off" style of shifts (don't quote those numbers) and I have known a few people who have done it like that. They accommodate you on the job of course and pay for the flights. One of the biggest problem is that there is no social life out there and a lot of guys end up drinking a lot out of boredom and because everyone else is. That's what I have heard anyway
