Rock as WWE champ good or Bad?

Voted good. Punks done a great job as champion and he's stepped his game up in his first few altercations with the Rock. That said, I'm personally excited to see The Rock as champ. Over 400 days is a LONG time to hold it, and if he survives the Rock, he won't surive Taker. Might as well drop it now.

Back to the Rock being champ... He's a major, major movie star. What better way to promote the biggest event of the year, then with a bonifide A-List celebrity carrying around the WWE Title? He'll be carrying that puppy to late night shows, interviews, movie premieres, and overall just garnering a lot of attention.

Honestly, we should count our blessings Cena vs Rock isn't to unify the titles. Having 1 title on the line is a relief. I genuinely thought Cena was taking MITB from Ole Dolphie.

And for anyone worried Punk will be hurt by this, no need to fear. Wrestlemania XXX, Punk will be setting the stage for arguably the biggest match of all time - against the Texas Rattlesnake. Let Cena have the Rock at WM29, Punks getting the even bigger wrestling star the following year.

Rock as champ is good for ratings but bad for the current group of talent. What does it say if a man from the bygone era can just waltz in and take the title whenever he pleases? The Rock doesn't even need the title really. He draws just from showing up so he could just feud with Punk without that title even being involved.

Now that I think about it, I don't think Rock having the title will make any difference. I don't think people who weren't tuning before will do so just because he has the belt. If they didn't care before the fact, they're not going to care after it. Ratings are up because of his appearance but they're not going to go sky high because The Rock is on top.

To me that says the the WWE has a vote of no confidence in their current full time roster, to actually draw.

It's like if you had a current job, lets say as a Walmart Supervisor, which you worked your ass off everyday at. Then a person who has quit working at Walmart to go onto bigger and better things walks right back into your job and instantly takes over your Supervisor role for a few months, then leaves again. You continue to work your ass off even more and lets say, the most important time of the year, black Friday arrives. And again this individual comes back and takes over your Supervisor role for that event.

To me it would look as if your company didn't have too much confidence in you to handle black Friday or any other event.

Every week there are more and more dates being announced of Rock being on Raw and Smackdown, so I'm not sure what you're basing this off of.

yes now they are announcing more, but right now he is not really going to be around a lot like cm punk is. That could change as time goes on.... and I was wrong about EC he was not advertised for a while before December but I don't really watch anymore so I don't really check info on PPV's. sorry. Just my opinion about rock, if hes not going to be around a lot or put punk over at wm then whats the point of ending his reign and becoming champ? I agree with most of the posts on this topic. It's bad IMO

Then a person who has quit working at Walmart to go onto bigger and better things can walk right back into your job and instantly become the supervisor for a few months, then leave again. Very solid analogy Stevie. Agreed completely that is sucks for the rest of the roster. People can argue, yea - but the rest of the roster gets bigger paydays! Honestly, it probably all balances out. The show might get more buys, but I imagine the Rock gets a FAT check for his contributions, taking a big slice of that payday pie from everyone. Also, not everyone cares entirely about the money. I bet Daniel Bryan and Sheamus would much rather put on a 25 minute spectacle than receive 10% more money because the Rock showed up.

But for the company, and for Wrestlemania buys, its probably a good move having the Rock be champ for a few months building up to Mania. It's an interesting wrinkle in the blueprint. It's not very often the part-timer/outsider is the one holding the prestigous prize, while the full-timers chase it. I can see some good promos coming out of it. Cena: "That's not your belt to hold Rock. It belongs to us, and I'm taking it back for the entire locker room, bla bla bla."

You make it sound like The Rock is just "someone" coming in. I know today's modern day wrestling fan doesn't quite realize it, but The Rock is not just "someone". He's someone who outdraws Punk 100 times over. Not sure who's winning at Royal Rumble. But if Rock wins, and it leads to Rock vs Cena II and this time, it's for the title, then good business decision as WM will probably get more buys than last year.

I agree...and I've said this many times right around last year's Wrestlemania. The reason they keep bringing back these older stars, is because today's stars don't draw. I still think they're missing the boat because these older stars are soon not gonna be able to come back, and there's no one to fill that void.

I did not vote, as I feel there should have been a third option, both. I view the Rock getting the WWE Championship as a double edge sword. On one side, you get the publicity that will surround him with movies like Snitch, and GI Joe coming out in the next 2 months, and that should/might in turn increase revenue to some edge. On the other edge, you get someone who in the past 36 months, has only wrestled twice, and appeared roughly ten times at best. Add in to that, we have a title reign going on that we likely won't see happen again for a long while. It all comes down to which side of the coin you are on and how you view it
