I'm 40 and grew up in the prime of the territories / rise of the WWF to power. I could not agree more with Robstar. What made Flair great wasnt that he was the biggest or toughest ass kicker... but that he gave phenomenal promos, was the leader of a great heel faction that always had his back and that he would continually slither away with the title. I marked out so hard the day Flair dropped the title to Kerry Von Erich.

Look at how great Miz was as champ. The fact that he continually escaped with the title made most kids yearn for him to lose. Yokozuna may have been the first heel champion I can think of that was completely dominate... Well, maybe Big Van Vader as well. But it worked with them.

That's pretty typical of the people around here that lay claim to having produced impossible to find "facts" and "logic" in their posts, which really just amounts to personal opinion, only to find that they don't have nearly enough petrol in their tank of ill-thought out rebuttal to take them towards any conclusion that won't end with them having to maybe stop and reconsider their position. It's much easier than ever admitting you were wrong after all than to flee the scene of the accident you were culpable in creating in the first place. As it shouldn't. The aspects of wrestling back in Sammartino's day and the modern day are plenty different. The fast paced catering of today would never allow a world champion to get past the 300 mark and for Punk to do it for so long should be something that's cherished especially with all the whining about how the belt's lost pr..pr..prestige. God, how I hate that word...or at least how the lot of wrestling fans use it nowadays.

Here's the problem with these "fans" that bust out the P word so often - they get so busy telling you how the belt doesn't have any these days, yet they offer no viable solutions as to how to restore it. Especially since, Even if Punk held the belt for 1000 days, as soon as he drops it to Cena, then the fans begin to devalue the belt in their own estimation. So, it's not the belt, it's Cena, it's whoever these "fans" don't like, so they'll rip into not only that person, they rip the belt, Vince, the WWE.

And again - it's not a matter of a "prestige" problem; it's not a Cena problem - it's a fan problem. They suck.

Personally, if a championship is to have any sort of prestige, than you'll have wrestlers waiting in the back to earn their spot. Have some talent come out, talk about how's it's always been their dream to become "X" champion, have some build up via rising through the ranks or calling out "X" champion and there you go. It also doesn't hurt to have some feuds here and there. And you know what? That's exactly what's been going on with Punk. From Jericho, Ryback, Cena, even the fucking Rock wants a piece of Punk and they still have the nerve to rag on about prestige?
