[Validity]

I was just browsing WWE.com as I was bored, and I started looking at the polls section and voting out of boredom.

My initial thoughts were firstly; 'I wonder how much WWE takes these into account when they move forward with storylines?'

Personally if the shows are written as shortly before taping as the dirtsheets and reports seem to suggest, then as they seem to be planning each show on what would be best for the specific night and not what is best to further a storyline or feud, I could see that they do take these into account to an extent to give the fans what they were hoping for on that night.

Secondly it shocked me in a way, but that's because I seem to have the 'Smark' mentality that a high amount of the users on this site do, about things that are obvious for the future, seeing the opinion of those who use the official website.

Namely the outcome of the seemingly inevitable match involving The Rock for the WWE title at Wrestlemania, when I saw this poll;

Will The Rock eclipse CM Punk's 434-day reign as WWE Champion?

There were 70,286 votes registered, and 57% of them were for 'Yes'.

I feel this is just a small insight into why WWE seem not to view themselves as predictable, as when a majority of users on the media and social media outlets they tirelessly plug could think something which is to me, is ridiculous and impossible.

What do you think?

I think WWE is well aware that their are multiple types of fans. And majority of those fans are NOT smarks. Yea, to users like me and you some of title matches seem to be super predictable... The storylines seem to lead to obvious places... ( Dolph literally was feuding with cena before he stole his "girlfriend" and was wearing a shirt what says I steal gf's lol) but to the majority of fans it's not obvious.

Not every fan reads dirt sheets and spoilers that makes outcomes obvious. If you were to take a poll on here of how many people think the rock will have a longer reign as champion than punk just did, you'd probably get laughed out of this place. WWE's fan base has a ton of children in it though, which makes questions like that seem less obvious to the entirety of the WWE Universe. Also I wouldn't put stock into those polls for some obvious reasons. Heels are suppose to get low vote counts for them, whereas if you were to come on here they are going to get much higher poll numbers. Batman is nothing without a super-villain to fight, John Cena is not superman if he doesn't have his own Lex Luthor.

I agree with everything that you've said pretty much.

Especially the majority of fans not being 'smarks' and the part about being laughed out of this place if you took that sort of poll here and the part about the large amount of children is obvious based on the poll, because in my opinion at least, even adults who don't read the dirtsheets etc wouldn't expect The Rock to be around in WWE for that long, even if they're only basing that on his more recent runs there.

Although I do dis-agree with the whole 'good vs evil' part, because to me the poll isn't saying, 'Is The Rock better than CM Punk', it's just saying 'Do you think The Rock is really going to be around that long'. But this of course most likely bias due to the previous mentions of how us as community on this sort of site view things, and is all subject to opinion and personal view of how you perceive the poll.

lol at those wwe.com polls.Just a bunch of kids constantly praising cena on ever poll even if it doesn't concern him. I doubt they take it into much consideration, maybe a bit though considering that's their target audience.

I was more thinking about when I use to take part of those polls. they would be questions like "who do you think will win randy orton or john cena" I was a teenager, and wasn't a smark yet... I'd always vote for cena, and he'd always be winning in a landslide. The reason people think the rock is going to hold it that long is because they like the rock, not because they actually think he deserves or even really believe he will hold the title for over 400 days. Even when I was 14 I wasn't that dumb.

I didn't think of it that way, it now does make a lot more sense to me. I guess it just made me feels old even though I'm only 20 that around 42,000 8 year olds can now use the internet well enough to find these polls
