I keep reading where the Nexus was a joke or a failed faction and I just don't see it. They dominated the scene on both Raw and Smackdown for six months. I hardly call that a failure. Granted it ended poorly, but at one time it was the buzz in the wrestling world. I like factions. While it is true that some do not work, some do. And, when they do, they are very entertaining.
They were
booked to dominate, but I was thinking more in terms of making long-term stars. Barrett got over--which I believe he would have done sans Nexus, anyway--but Justin Gabriel is certainly an afterthought anymore, Slater is a comedy glorified enhancement talent, the Prime Time Players are anything but, Sheffield certainly was a bust until they "erased" his past (Newcomer Of The Year!)...well, you get the picture.
Nothing personal, but I don't think I'd consider Nexus the buzz for an
extended period of time. Talk of the town for a while, sure, but then again, the same can be said of Aces And Eights, meaning many fresh groups get fans pumped for a while, primarily because people are begging for something new and exciting. Then booking manages to blow it yet again, and everyone is let down...again.
