Is Taker's/WWE's reluctance to have him retire at 20-0 going to devalue the WWE title

CM Punk has beaten pretty much everyone on the active (full time) roster. As it is almost certain that he will loss to Taker at Mania. Lets not kid ourselves, the DVD sales of an unbeaten streak retirement boxset is worth way to much to The E. So a pretty much retired, beaten up, half broken down, ex wrestler is able to beat one of the greatest of the modern era. Hardly a good sign for the current roster.

I don't think it does devalue the roster though. Some people can just straight up ball when the lights are there brightest, while others can not. Like for instance Peyton Manning, one of the best regular season QBs, but terrible in the playoffs. If anything I'd just say that Mania is when Taker performs at his best.

The Undertaker - "The Phenom", "The Dead Man" - wrestles at Wrestlemania.
Mark Calaway - 47, broken down, hip replaced wrestling legend - doesn't.

WWE isn't staging Phil Brooks vs. Mark Calaway they're staging CM Punk vs. The Undertaker. It doesn't matter how old and frail 'Taker is in real life because he'll still put on a great match at Wrestlemania and the semi supernatural character he plays will still appear just that. It's not about who would win in a real fight FFS it's pro wrestling. There is only one accolade left for CM Punk to reach for and that's to achieve what no-one else has and beat The Undertaker at Wrestlemania, win or lose his run as WWE champion is un-affected. If anything devalues the WWE title and roster it's giving it to the gassed out part timer Dwayne.

last years mania taker vs HHH was the best match on the card, why do people complain about taker vs punk? this will be the best match on the card also, even when taker is in a bad shape he is still one off the best

Completely agree OP Punk is not going to end the streak because it will cost WWE money if the Undertaker loses imagine a boxset now Undertaker Undefeated for 25 years 25-0.

A couple of things:

1. Wrestling is fake.
2. Undertaker and CM Punk are some of the most favorite performers out there right now.
3. The only thing that could devalue the title is if WWe paid for silver and got silverplated instead.

Back in the day there was this performer who could not be beat by anyone unless he allowed it. Not because of back stage pull but because he really could not be beat. Did the fact that the most powerful wrestler at that time did not always hold the belt devalue him. No. When he did hold the belt it was good, but he could of never held the belt and still been a fan favorite and remembered for years to come. When Hogan faced that Giant people remember the match more then whether a title was on the line. Titles in Wrestling are more of a reward then a title in true sports. Undertaker could go 30 and 0 and never devalue a title or the people he is up against people will remember the streak and who he fault. The "Streak" is Undertaker's reward for the 20+ years of stardom and hard work he has given the E and it should never end.
