To IC or not to IC?

What first started off as a discussion on EWNCW's future has now turned into an issue on whether or not IC'ing is to be encouraged or not in the efeds. Some say "yes", some say "no", others are somewhat in-between. While I understand that this is something that should be discussed about, I'd rather it be talked about in a thread that's actually dedicated to the topic instead of sending another thread off course which is why I've decided to make this thread. You're allowed to say what you want about IC'ing and I can assure you that no one will, or should, discourage you from saying what's on your mind. If what you're saying doesn't involve bashing feds or other users and people STILL give you hell about it, it might be time to find other company.

Feelings might get hurt but if anything keeps you from having any fun in the efeds, you should be able to speak out against it. Take the kiddy gloves off, leave them on for all I care. If there's one principle that should be encouraged, it should be honesty. So anyways, let's get what you have to say off your chest and hopefully, we can all compromise in some way that leads the the growth of the efeds.

IC work is overrated. It actually doesn't give an accurate portrayal of anything. Yes. It can be good for developing characters, however it relies on people being willing to collaborate with each other to make both parties come off looking better. This will offend some of you but, most of the people who take part in the Efeds don't want to do that. They want their characters To be the world champions. They want everyone to see them as the best guys out. In terms of using IC work to do this, K2J, you do IC things right, you put in effort to write quality stuff. But here's the thing, when you go through and put in the massive effort, does it feel like a waste of time when others are too intimidate and don't make a similar effort to reply? This is the problem, when someone does go to the effort of doing something in a discussion thread, the most they get back is usually a " nice post dude" or "wow, that's awesome." If that. I know personally I can't be bothered putting in the effort in most places anymore because when I have in the past it's been completely ignored by everyone.

Then to make things even more frustrating, even after putting in effort and getting absolutely nothing back, posting shorter less thought out things, people complain that you are spamming the discussion thread. And then complain that there isn't enough activity happening.

Its really encouraging. Anyway... Back on track, there's nothing wrong with IC'ing but the whole point of it is thrown out the window when people would rather respond to a short meaningless pile of poop in the form of words then to something that takes an hour...

To me I actually have a little bit of fun IC'ing at times. But in my opinion it shouldn't go more than a couple of posts, 3 at most. And they should not excede 120 characters or whatever twitter has it set at. Sometimes reading some people's IC's feels like I'm reading a promo and I don't get past the first 2 sentences. And people that want to do side stories for their characters should put them in their own thread, because when I see a loooonnngggg post that to me looks like a long IC post and I just usually skip them.

As I've clearly said already, as far as EWNCW and I are concerned, the stance on IC work is that it isn't an obligation, it's a choice.

Obviously I think it's beneficial, and it's fun (at least IMO). But not everyone enjoys it, and it's not fair to force someone to do something thy don't enjoy.
That being SAID< I disagree with anyone who says that it doesn't add anything or that it isn't beneficial. In shows, you're restricted to promoing with whoever you're booked to face. In the thread you have the chance to feud with pretty much whoever you want. This also gives the creative boffins in charge the chance to see what you can do without guidelines, and it gives us the chance to see who we can book in feuds through seeing who works well together.
Case and point: William Carlin vs Kayden James. One of the better feuds that's gone through EWNCW. This feud was brought about when Grind and Poot started IC'ing against each other in the discussion thread.

Like I say, it' snot an obligation or forced (at least not in my book) but it's certainly encouraged and it's a choice that's there for everyone to do it if they want.

This is exactly why I think IC post should be like a twitter post. To me there is no point to make a big post. You don't see wrestlers just all standing around in a room, outside of a show, arguing with each other in long ass promo style rants. Instead people like Jericho and Punk take it to twitter say a couple lines and that's it.

i am in between on this. Icing does have its merits- the runners of efeds may see something in the banter between people that can lead somewhere- a feud or something of the sort. But at the same time, with so much ICing or general chatting about random stuff they may miss it- it gets lost in pages and pages that is too much to sort through. And there are some of us just that do not have the time to shift through pages to respond to an IC towards us. Granted there are some people who put a lot into their IC post that i will always read- Zappho's BITW post and any Sag Blue post and SB/Ano Doom post and a few others like Glamour Girl, Kash and R(ob) but they sometimes get lost in pages. And as for some like Torps who doesnt IC, i like that too as i feel it would take away from some of his amazing characters. So i really feel like its up to the person- if they have the time and want to IC- cool. If not- no biggie. As long as you try to get your promos in on time, i think the efed runners are just happy with that

IC allows you to interact with people you are not feuding with and (maybe) spark a new feud. In my case, Carlin vs. James, who was EWNCW candidate for Feud of the Year oin the awards Bear created, started as IC'ing in the EWNCW thread. It also gave Carlin the chance of becoming his current character, an atheist trying to get rid of religious fanatics that want to install their beliefs as the only one valid in EWNCW. It depends on how much effort you are willing to put in them. Also I recently posted a good piece of IC directed to Romulus, another charatcer I'm not feuding with, and besides Tommy and K2, I didn't get any reaction. A wasted material for a future promo? Possibly, but I wanted to get that out of my chest, and I grabbed the opportunity.

I have more characters than Carlin, but I don't IC as much with them (Grind for obvious reasons, being a silent monster, although it can be done), as I'm not that invested with them. It also happens that I have to be in the mood, and that doesn't happen a lot recently.

Regarding long IC posts, it's up to the writers. I try to read them, but I also need to be in the mood, and sometimes skip it.

I still think IC'ing is good.

Ok so a promo is a cake. Good on its own, but doesnt do much for ya by itself. Icing is the show. Icing on its own is good, but again, no point. Now when you take the cake and icing and combine them, you get something amazing, much like weekly shows with good promos. Now, ICing, is like the sprinkles and cookie crumbles that go on and around the cake. Do you have to have it? No. Does it make the whole thing better? I think so.

Why can't the IC'ing be icing roses or a fancy border around the cake?
