New Console - Need Suggestions

I would say get Far Cry 3, Portal 2, Dead Space 3, and (obviously) WWE '13.

Far Cry is now added. I played 2 and was a bit let down but a bunch of my friends have been pumping it up. And I won't get WWE'13. I know it's strange but I don't like wrestling games. Last one I bought was on the 64 (WCW vs. nWo) and the last hacked one I had was Fire Pro on an emulator.

I'm amazed at how cheap you can get the Orabge Box for. I know it's been out a while now, but still, Half Life 2 is a long ass game. And getting Portal with it is a big bonus. Half Life though is one of the best games I've ever played hands down.

Deus Ex again is well worth the little money you pay for it. Had awesome reviews, and albeit slightly short, definitely worth it.

Yeah you'll be playing Mass Effect for a long time if you get it. The 3 games is effectively one big game split across 3 installments, and you have to play through a few times to know the consequences of making the different decisions at various points. But I guess that's what you call getting your money's worth. It's by far the best series I've played though, and it's definitely worth a look.

I have heard great things about ME and will have to get into it but my gaming schedule would have to be cleared for about 3 months to complete the saga. Deus Ex is added and I will try to grab it from GameStop next time I am there.

You can get the entire God of War saga together (God of War 1, 2, 3, Chains of Olympus & Ghost of Sparta) in one collection for like $40 which is a great deal and I highly recommend the series. But, most importantly, THE UNCHARTED SERIES!!!!!!!!!!! How nobody has mentioned it is incredible. 3 of the greatest games I've ever played.

I agree. I am playing Uncharted 3 right now and if you are a fan of awesome story telling and gameplay then I would recommend the entire Uncharted series. Totally worth the money.

Yeah, I made a small comment about the Uncharted series in the OP. I have played about 2 hours worth of the first installment at a family friend’s house one night. When the PS3 was released, the two reasons I wanted it was due to the blue-ray player and God of War 3 (since they weren't releasing it on the PS2). They have a special edition PS3 for GOW featuring the entire series (which is what you were saying), plus the slim console being a crimson Red and featuring a 500 Gb hard drive for around $300. I was going to grab that one, but I opted for a lower hard drive and cheaper version because, as big of a fan of the franchise as I am, I can't imagine spending the time with GOW3 and Ascension, along with going back through CoO, GoS, GOW 1 & 2 without getting tired of playing as Kratos.



On a side note - Batman: AC is epic. I've spent about 8 hours on it and I'm only 19% through (thanks to the vast amounts of side missions and the hours I have spent trying to figure out puzzles, tracking down informants, and finding clues to Riddler's Trophies) the second installment in the series. Awesome graphics and the additional weaponry is awesome.

Yeah Arkham City is all kinds of epic. I just love the fact that yet again I shelled out for a game, only for it to be free on PSPlus literally 2 weeks later. 3 times I've done this now.

I am going to have to dig deeper into this PSPlus. Is it a pay service similar to Xbox Live? I have been into the PSHome store once and it was only to set up my account to activate Netflix.

Yeah you can either have a month, 3 months or a year subscription. Mine was on offer £29.99 for the year, instead of £39.99, not sure of the US prices, but you get full games, demos, DLC content cheaper, discounts on full games etc.

Full games I've had so far for free: Red Dead Redemption, Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare, Mass Effect 3, Mortal Kombat 9, Bulletstorm, Borderlands 1, Saints Row 2, Just Cause 2, Batman Arkham City, God of War 1 (HD), Infamous 1 & 2, Vanquish, Crysis 2, Tomb Raider Guardian of Light, F1 Race Stars, Motorstorm Apocalypse, Sleeping Dogs, Bioshock 2 and a fair few others, so it's definitely paid for itself. Oh and this is only from last September.

You can only play them while subscribed though, you can't play if you cancel subscription but at such a cheap price for a year, I'll keep it.

This is an interesting concept as I would love the chance to get many older games for free instead of paying $10-25 for each but don't want to fill my hard drive with multiple games. Sure I could just delete them after I played them, but it would take more time diving into the system to figure that part out so I don't want to bury myself before I have a basic understanding for the console.

You download them to your hard drive, it's no major shakes deleting unwanted titles to be fair. Definitely worth you checking it out.

You download these games onto your hard drive, so it depends how big your hard-drive is I guess. I have an 80GB hard drive on mine and have downloaded Lara Croft: Guardian of Light (another one definitely worth considering), Mass Effect 1 (this game is only available on the PS3 as a download) and a few demos. I've still got plenty of space left on my hard drive after that, so that gives you some indication.

There's a load of older or old school Playstation games available though, so worth checking out for sure.

I think you should be ok to download 4 games and still have ample space to save data for them.
I've got saved data for about 10 ish games (multiple saves for each game of course), and then I have 2 full games downloaded onto the hard drive plus a few demos, and there's still space left, so I think you should be ok there.

Mass Effect 1 for example is one of the full games I have downloaded and that took up 11 GB. Games won't come much bigger than that (I don't think), so that gives you an idea of how much 1 game would take on the hard drive.
