You know what's awesome? I actually deleted the name and inserted Riddick as a name that would seem more relevant towards the end of the decade (yes I know Pitch Black was released in 2000, but it still fell into the same category to me). It's the classic "90's is SO cool, every character has to sound cool, even if the movie is shit" mindset in making action films.
You know one of my favorites? Simon Phoenix and his supporting cast. Look at the names of all the characters in the futuristic, Taco Bell dominated world; such subtle plugs for their sponsors.
The futuristic setting of Demolition Man made the name Simon Phoenix seem OK, even though he was from the past.

I do love me some Demo Man, in a tongue in cheek way, of course.
You know there's a new Riddick movie in the works right now?
There were quite a few movies made on either side of the 90's that to me qualify as "90's movies" haha.
