I was going to mention Confessions... as a favourite of mine too. What's with the guy he played huh? Was he legit or an absolute nutter? It's such a fantastic tale and Clooney doesn't get the credit for it either that he deserves, I think it was his directorial debut?
I absolutely agree about MM being a great Cage role and I am not a huge Cage fan. I am of certain things he's done, like I was watching Raising Arizona again the other day. I even sort of enjoyed him in Bad Lieutenant: New Orleans where he was doing the "good crazy Cage" but I still find his performances in movies like The Rock and Face/Off to be abhorrent and OTT. Fortunately I have found if I watch those movies without my serious face and judgement hat on, I can enjoy them as pure farcical action comedies - I can imagine them almost as National Lampoon movies. But to me, they'll always signify the overblown 90's crap that we just seemed to be inundated with - like all those friggin' disaster movies of the time - Armageddon, The Core, Volcano, Daylight, Deep Impact. Gag me with a spoon!

Even the names of these characters irks me! I feel like some writer went "What's the most off the wall and '90's cool' names can I come up with?" One of the things I hate so much about the 90's - in retrospect - is that unlike the 80's, which wasn't ashamed about it's big time pretentiousness, hell it flaunted it, but the 90's was the same and more but we all tried to hide it beneath an exterior of fake sincerity and a facade of being oh-so-meaningful. Yeah, thanks grunge! It was like the Corporate Hippie Ministry! lol

And this is a perfect reason for me to love such characters; the “we have to make this cool” motive that is blatant makes it so over the top that you can't take it as a serious film. The writers had that desire to create a character that "sounded cool" when you were to reference them. Similar to how "Chili Palmer", "Riddick", and "Korben Dallas" are just names that stick out when associating what you remember about a movie. Just like with Face/Off, it has been so long since I have seen the film, but I will always remember the Troy brothers and the Gold Plated, Dragon Engraved Handles of Castor's hand guns.

It seems as if we all took a similar approach in allowing time and others opinions of the film to pass before watching it. I heard from SO many this was a revolution in how films should be made and it made me want to see it even less. People's opinions (especially those who I value their opinion on movie very highly) tend to sway me one direction or the other before I even see it. With films like this one, I Am Legend, and The Departed, I had to allow enough time to pass before I watched it so I could make my own judgments as to if I enjoyed it or not.


To the 3D aspect, I imagine it would be some sort of magical to view this film that way, but I can't do it. ALL 3D programming causes a migraine, and regardless of how good to excellent a movie is, I don't want to lay motionless in a dark room for 6 hours after watching a film.

3D has been abused just to make more money. Avatar, Life of Pi and Hugo were the only movies I would recommend in 3D on. Life of Pi is one of the most gorgeous movies of 2012 in my opinion and I went to see it mostly for its aesthetics.

I actually deleted the name and inserted Riddick as a name that would seem more relevant towards the end of the decade (yes I know Pitch Black was released in 2000, but it still fell into the same category to me). It's the classic "90's is SO cool, every character has to sound cool, even if the movie is shit" mindset in making action films.

I had heard of the new Riddick movie in the making (Self Titled if I am not mistaken) but I am actually one of the select few who is hoping more for Pitch Black "Thriller-esque" type of feel than what Chronicles was (even if the video game was pretty solid).

I can't help but love Demo man. From the "Sex Scene" with Sandra, to Dennis Leary's "Underground Ruler" role, to the greetings and salutations between the characters, the movie is packed with such hilarious extremes; it's hard to believe some would actually believe this to fit in the "action film" section of the Netflix library. When they start discussing Three Sea Shells, you know this is an action comedy that compares with The Naked Gun closer than it does with an actual action movie.
