Just got done with Beasts of the Southern Wild, and I can honestly say that I've never seen anything quite like it. What a fresh and wonderful little film. I don't put any sort of stock in the Oscars, but they really got it right when they acknowledged the fantastic performance of 9 year old newcomer Quvenzhané Wallis; she's an absolute revelation.

So haven't gotten the chance to comment, but got some time so i will. Megan Fox as April in TMNT. That is just sad. I've followed on wikipedia and other sites, and needless to say, I am not looking forward to this movie, when I was a huge fan of the original.

Another interesting movie with a really unique concept that I recommend is Being John Malkovich from 1999, a lot of people haven't heard of it and the whole movie just feels fresh and unique.

Oscar winners: Any surprises, disappointments?

Loved Seth as a host, Argo winning was cool, Ang Lee winning was unexpected but I love Life of Pi so I can deal with it, Argo's win was well deserved and the Bond tribute was great. I still think Skyfall deserved more Oscar nominations

Ang Lee winning best director was a surprise but when you actually think about it, you realise how much of an directorial achievement that film was.
