Come on Iron Ape that was a great movie. This say's it all

"I don't know who you are... I don't know what you want.... If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have the money, but, what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go, now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you. I will not persue you. But, if you don't, I will look for you... I will find you... And I will kill you.".

    GOOD LUCK!

I don't know, man. In my realm, a minute and half's worth of badass dialogue is nowhere near enough to counteract 92 other minutes worth of been-there-done-that genre conventions. Seagal's had this ex-CIA op wages personal war on a foreign entity tedium on direct-to-video lockdown for well over a decade now, and I can't really bring myself to get excited about it just because they've pumped a little bit more money into this one. It's still a broken down Saab, only now with a slightly slicker coat of paint.

We all have different taste but I thought Taken was an awesome movie. I guess since I'm not a big Seagal fan I haven't really seen many of his movies so in a way Taken was somewhat original to me.

I just watched The Rite and it was scary has hell. Anthony Hopkins is one of the best actors EVER. He plays the pscho role so well. One of the best quotes of the movie is "Just because you don't believe in the devil wont protect you from him." That is such a profound statement.

For the record, I'm not a fan of Steven Seagal so much as I am an enthusiastic witness of his never-ending car crash of a career. The worse his DTV movies get, the more entertaining I find them.

As for The Rite, I haven't seen it. It's gotten abysmal reviews, so I figured that I would steer clear until it hit cable or something. The month of January is typically a dumping ground for the studios, anyways, plus I kind of caught a wiff of something bad as soon as I saw the trailer.

I thought it was a good movie but I'm also really into spiritual and religious stuff.
A wise person once told me to make my own decisions on whether a film is good or not and not leave it up to the critics. Like the saying goes opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.

I didn't say The Rite wasn't a good movie as, again, I haven't seen it. But when 80 of the 96 nationally published reviews paint it as one of the worst of the year, I'm usually inclined to believe that there might be something to the criticism. And, really, the bad reviews mainly just serve as validation for the decision I had already made to not run out to see it. Besides, there's so much really excellent stuff new to DVD and Blu-ray at the moment (Winter's Bone, The Social Network, Let Me In) that I'm in no real hurry to wade through January's box office, um, offerings, anyways.
