To me, if you aren't willing to commit to a movie in it's entirety, you have no business offering a critique about it. I'm not saying that movie watching has to be super serious but come on - it's an hour and a half, give or take, of your life. Movies, much the same as music suffers from a stigma of existing in the echo of all movies - good or bad - ever made. There will always be comparisons and it's fucking crippled the creativity of movie making and story telling.

To be held hostage by the past is a tragic thing - and every new movie gets held in contrast to what amounts to the unmeetable standard that esteem coupled with rose coloured nostalgia inevitably brings.

I've never met anyone who says their favourite movie is Citizen Kane but have met who say it's the Greatest Movie ever... Which makes more sense. I'm The Godfather for both categories.

I don't get this. The guy has had a creative resurgence of sorts ever since 2005's Match Point and made what many consider to be one of the 3 best things he's ever done just last year with Midnight In Paris. So, like, why would someone saying that they enjoy the current state of Woody Allen make them pretentious or a liar? That's a rather Olympic-esque leap of logic.

If you liked Spit on your grave, you'd love this. Although the rape scenes are a bit different.
