The Raid Redemption 9.8/10 - Just pure action, nothing else. Seriously, seeing a guy counter a man to the ground and shoot him in the face twice close up is just fight scene heaven. Jason Statham wishes his films had this kind of choreography.

Taken 2 was the cinematic equivalent of the Big Mac; it was prepared with all of the artistry of an assembly-line sandwich, and I sort of felt like shit after consuming it because, really, I should have friggin' known better. Oh, and it's over huge with the undemanding masses who love filling their gullet with this sort of lower-the-bar bullshit.

The ending set it up for a third film and the now the box-office numbers have pretty much guaranteed it. So yeah, I'm interested to find out who gets taken this time. Maybe Liam Neeson loses his soul and goes on a journey to find his inner self?

Dark Shadows. 7.5/10. Would have given it 7 but added a half point for the hot chicks in it. And you can't go past a good Alice Cooper cameo. It was fairly entertaining but it seemed like something Tim Burton threw together on a whim between other more serious projects. Featuring Burton regulars Depp and of course the missus, the always enchanting Helena Bonham Carter alongside an amusing turn by Jonny Lee Miller (Trainspotting, Hackers) and the very watchable Michelle Pfeiffer.

Alter Egos. 7/10. This low budget superhero tale is another look at average (read:below average) superheroes. Story is pretty light and in some instances the costumes are pretty cheap. Featuring 'secret scientologist' Danny Masterson, John Ventimiglia and Joey Kern. Killed an hour and a half painlessly. Mind you, I had nothing else to do, no pressing matters
