Is Godzilla really a something that could work in this day and age?

For cult fans like me; yes.


I loved Final Wars and Godzilla 2000 but I don't think the 2014 version is going to be anything that will spark another 15 movies. I think the best thing going for the movie is that both the writer for the screen play and director are virtually unknown so there isn't much expectation for this to be anything and with Dave Callaham (Expendables 1&2) and David S. Goyer (Dark Knight Rises, The Dark Knight, Batman Begins, Dark City) writing the story for it, I think it will certainly surpass the crap that was Matthew Broderick and Roland Emmerich gigantic turd on the entire Godzilla series from 1998.

Forget cult fans, a big monster attacking a city is just basic blockbuster stuff so I'm sure it could work. It's all about getting the right director though, avoid people like McG, Len Wiseman and the guy who keeps on making Resident evil films (even though every feature usually has a tagline like 'The end is now')

The 'current' Director is listed as Gareth Edwards (Monsters - 2010) so they have avoided the typical "Blockbuster" director route and seem to be keeping the movie a low key in the "Who's who" list of Hollywood Massive Explosions Used in a Film. The only notable names to the movie so far are the two story writers mentioned before, along with Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass, Savages) and Bryan Cranston (Malcolm in the Middle, Breaking Bad, Rock of Ages). The producers are where you are going to see a list of notable names with Jon Jashni, Mary Parent, Brian Rogers, and Thomas Tull already listed.


EDIT - Darabont is confirmed as screenwriter for the film. With his work on films like Shawshank and The Green Mile as well as his current work on The Walking Dead, I am sure he will head up the team.

I liked him in Savages, but Kick-Ass was its own story. Honestly, I don't think he can do worse than Broderick in Iguana 1998, or Michael Stahl-David and Mike Vogel in the wonderfully fucked up movie Cloverfield.


I am interested to see who will fill out the supporting cast and crew but in no way am I going to allow a film about a franchise I was fond of growing up peek my interest. Last time I did that, I was introduced to the magical world of Robot Heaven with Transformers 2 and given a splendid puddle of bile known as G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra starring the EVER so talented Channing Tatum

Now I watched This Is England the other night and was absolutely sucked right into the whole thing. So much so, I started watching This Is England 86 straight after. What a fucking movie! Simply put, everything about this movie was just great. If you enjoy good, well made, storytelling movies, then you will enjoy this. If you enjoy fluff, then you probably won't. Not all the characters are good looking or easy to watch. But this movie taps into a certain reality that so many movies miss. I especially liked the way it didn't focus on the usual tired old themes that other skinhead movies rely on (being that it is NOT a skinhead movie per se). 9.5/10

Yeah, I don't see why not? Couldn't work any less so than Transformers; flying-alien-whales in Avengers? (Well it could, I guess). Ok, Transformers was a bad example - in terms of quality, but not at shovelling in the dolla'-dolla' beeeeeeel.

Really good film, and series. Great performances. I loved how the era, and environment in which it was set, became like another fundamental character of the film. Stephen Graham scarilly unnerving with his work here.
