The Wanderers (1979)
A nice wee coming-of-age story revolving around various teenage gang members in early 60's New York. It can be best described as having the aesthetic of The Warriors crossed with the spirit of Grease.
It's a cinematic rarity in the way it can fluidly switch back and forth between being sidesplittingly funny and incredibly poignant/deep, (if it's not doing both simultaenously) without coming off as hokey and forced. It has a ton of heart, this film.
The only major flaw I could identify is that there are simply too many characters (LOTS by film standards) with their own seperate plot threads running at once by the second act, bloating the middle portion of the film somewhat until they're all neatly tied back together by the end. I'm sure it's one of those plots that benefit from a rewatch, though.
