Alright, I'll try to dial it back to, like, 7 or so.

I'm quite familiar with the actual story but have not seen this version. I've seen many reenactments on True Crime type shows however. Some truly sick individuals wouldn't you say? Snowtown is in South Australia, just a few hundred KMs from where I live now. Would you recommend watching it?

Yeah, I'm big on true crime stuff, and even going into the movie knowing the story didn't seem to do much to lessen the blow. I mean, it's a particularly nasty, ugly little slice of celluloid. Almost made Animal Kingdom seem like a Pixar flick by comparison. If you can handle that sort of thing, then I highly recommend checking it out.

Just thinking about the guy who played John Bunting is legit making me want to run a bath and put some "Shiny Happy People" on.

The problem with Evil Dead as a trilogy is continuity. Or lack of. ED2 is for all intents and purposes, a remake of ED1 with a budget. ED1 is also very demanding on the viewer not used to sitting through such long stretches of boring dialogue and non-events. And I'm a fan! You can easily get away with skipping the first one and watching Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn & Evil Dead 3: Army Of Darkness. Watching the first one is more like a labor of love for fans of the franchise, Sam Raimi and/or Bruce Campbell.
