Speaking of Super J Cup, I don't really see why The Great Sasuke vs. Wild Pegasus got five stars from the wrestling observer... I thought it was four star at best. Maybe I've become immune to their awesome spots or something.

WAR's 95 cup was better IMO

Nah, Lyger Vs Sasuke was better than anything on the WAR card! Plus, Super J Cup 94 was the second Japanese wrestling tape I ever saw (after IWA King of the death match 95), so I may be biased. I agree with you about the Sasuke and Pegasus match though. It wasn't a patch on the awesome semi between the two masked legends!

This. The only reason I brought up the Observer is because I have a "5 Star Matches of Japan" compilation on my computer.

There are only three from New Japan on there by the way, and Liger vs. Sasuke is another one of them.

Oodles of All Japan matches though. Some awesome, some boring... and many of them are practically the exact same match. (since most contain either Kobashi, Misawa, Kawada or some combination thereof)

AJPW used to have "five star matches" once a week, and although I've rarely seen a bad match with any of the big names of the 90's, your kinda right, their matches all followed the same basic (awesome) formula. So to label all of those Misawa matches with the same five stars, kinda, waters down the rating somewhat. Top ten rating system works a lot better in my mind, but I've always prefererd ratings to be done out of 100 (much like many computer magazines do) as it allows much more room to distinguish the "five star matches". Also, how the fuck anyone could give the same rating to the two SJC94 matches is beyond me. The crowd may have been going nuts for Sasuke in the final, but the fatigue factor and the time limits made sure the match didn't come close to the Semi.

As for your edit, I know your joking, but for those that are reading this, AJPW is a barely there shadow of it's former self, and Baba must be rolling in his grave at what his baby has become at the hands of Muto. It's Jr Heavyweight division is something special though, and Kaz Hayashi has been having awesome matches there for a few years now.

Main eventers in Japan stay on top for years, don't they? Which is both good and bad, as the promoters over there tend to rely on their top guys a little too much. When those top stars start to wane, creating new top stars is that much harder. Something that NJPW, NOAH and AJPW have struggled with over the years.

Still as I said, it's awesome that Yuji will be facing Tanahashi! I'm hoping for a Yuji win!!!!

Yeah isn't Muta still a big star? But he does get treated with the utmost respect. New stars would be good for this great organization. They would great benefits. Jr. Heavyweight action gets the most of my attention and they should get other new guys in that division.

I want Yuji to win as well dude! xD

Just went snooping and this caught my eye.

24th, 2011 New Japan has announced most of the schedule for “BEST OF THE SUPER JR. XVIII“, the latest edition of professional wrestling’s biggest tournament for junior heavyweights. Eight out of ten shows have been announced and the first thing you will notice is the overabundance of Tokyo events, with the reason being many of the places the company planned to run can’t be used because of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Ten shows will make up the tour altogether.

The annual big Osaka show in June also returns with “DOMINION 6.18″, which will be a live PPV as well as a national TV taping. As always, this will feature big title matches, just as last year’s featured Makabe defending the IWGP Heavyweight Title against Go Shiozaki, Prince Devitt dethroning Marufuji for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title, and Bad Intentions taking the IWGP Tag Team Title from Nagata & Inoue. Both Devitt and Bad Intentions still hold those belts and if they make it to “DOMINION 6.18″ with them, will have reigned for about a year.
