Since we went off topic on another thread, I am going to dedicate this thread to the legendary Aussie crim, Mark Brandon "Chopper" Read.

That top pic was from the mid-70's. He was a toecutter, so he worked solo pretty much. Lol, he got caught a lot though. If you haven't seen the movie, check it out - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0221073/ The guy really did cut off his ears to get moved in jail!

I should mention he has given up crime and now does do spoken word tours and has written several books - some stories true, some patently untrue and some he's taken from other crims and applied to himself. But as the man himself says, 'never let the truth get in the way of a good yarn(story)'

I didn't know much of anything before I saw the movie, but I thought Bana was pretty incredible in it.

Yeah he's a bomb actor. Funny thing is, here in Aus, he started as a comedy actor. You should see The Castle - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118826/ and I thought he was great in Star Trek, but have to admit, I watched that poor excuse for a movie Troy last night and he's not too flash in it. The whole movie is an overblown bag of pus. In my opinion, lol

Yeah, I knew he came from a comedy background, but the only comedy that I've seen him in was Funny People, and his character in that was kind of tied in with the more dramatic second half of the movie. I just added The Castle to my Netflix que, so I'll check it out as soon as it becomes available.

You're dead on about Troy being pretty much rubbish, and I dug him in Star Trek, too. I really liked him in Munich, though; that's a severely underrated flick.

, he is a friend of my father's.

He was an amateur/underground boxer/gangster, that tore through his opponents like the Nasty Bully most of his type are. He finally met his match in a younger, bigger & nastier (in the ring at least) Lenny McLean

They had three fights and Lenny won the last two, although I don't think Lenny got his money for the last one, due to the fact that it was waiting outside for him, so to speak!
Although has passed on now, you may remember Lenny for his role in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, by Guy Ritchie.

Back to Chopper, how many movies have there been about him? I saw one ages ago and loved it, the guy seemed to be completely off his trolley! His description of chopping off toes was simultaneously Cringing, Shocking and Funny!

Only one Chopper movie and I think Bana played it pretty close to the bone. Who was Lenny in Lock, Stock...?

Hey check these out, this newsreader is totally blowing this out of proportion - 'a WOMAN(!) faced him down in his 'hideout in an island off Australia'(Tasmania, which isn't just some island, it's a state, never a secret). The incident they refer to is retold in a different way in the movie, when Chopper shoots somebody and drives him to the hospital afterwards. It was never proven.

Fucking classic stuff
