The members of La Résistance were never from France as per the gimmick stated. René Dupree is actually French Canadian from Moncton, New Brunswick (where that part of New Brunswick is VERY French). His father Émile is a former pro wrestler himself and ran Grand Prix Wrestling in New Brunswick. The promotion was partnered up with the WWE to bring Maritime wrestling talent into the WWE spotlight.

Sylvain Grenier is originally from Montreal where he still resides to this day. His first gig in the WWE was as a referee in a match between The Rock and Hulk Hogan at No Way Out from Montreal in 2003. Since leaving WWE, Grenier opened his own promotion called Top of the World Wrestling, and is also the French commentator for Impact Wrestling (replacing former tag team champion Carl Ouellet aka Jean-Pierre LaFitte and Pierre of the Quebecers).

Rob Conway was the only American in the group, being brought up from OVW at the time and was a former multi-time tag champion with Nick Dinsmore aka Eugene having 10 reigns as a team. He debuted with La Resistance as a plant in the audience impersonating an airman. According from what I read, after Conway was being "harassed" by La Résistance, he was invited into the ring by The Dudley Boyz, who were then feuding with La Résistance. While "celebrating" with the Dudley Boyz and waving the American flag, Conway suddenly hit them both with the flagpole, revealing himself to be a member of La Résistance.

After Duprée moved to Smackdown and started his French Phenom gimmick, the team of Conway and Grenier revamped their gimmick from Frenchmen to Quebecers! The team of Grenier and Duprée reunited once on ECW and were never seen again after the match, but after all of their releases from the WWE, the team reunited with Genier and Conway under the name The Resistance as Duprée left the US for Japan working under the name René Bonaparte first for Hustle, then moving to All Japan in January 2010 where he was in the Voodoo Murders stable until they disbanded.
