I can't help but think that some of this thread is directed towards something I posted in a previous thread. I would like an opportunity to defend my statement and rebut your statement as well. I will give you reasons why I think the way I do, and not just talk trash like many other people in this forum.
First of all, let me state for the record that I am currently deployed to Afghanistan. The Royal Rumble isn't shown here until Tuesday night. I can't wait that long, and read the spoilers. If I were not deployed, and I was in the States, I would have watched it live just like everyone else. However, I cannot.
The Royal Rumble sounds like an excellent pay per view. I cannot wait to watch it. I am not one of those people that think the current WWE PG product is garbage, and I thoroughly enjoy the current WWE product. I also believe the the return of Booker T and Kevin Nash is exciting. I don't believe that they should be in the main event picture, but I do believe they are both entertaining, as long as they don't try to push themselves over the newer generation of WWE Superstars. The WWE title match sounded good, as did the World Heavyweight Championship match. I wasn't a fan of Eve winning the Diva's Championship, as I was really hoping Kong would debut and help Natalya defeat Laycool. Especially with all the fat comments they have been making. However, I don't mind too much.
On to the Royal Rumble match.
Let me start this off the right way. I am a fan of Alberto Del Rio. He is a great in ring worker, and he is excellent on the mic. Everytime he is on Raw or Smackdown, I am tuned in and paying attention. He has everything, to me, to be the future of the WWE. However, I don't think that future should be this soon. As i have said in a previous post, I believe that he hasn't been in WWE long enough to be main eventing WrestleMania. I really don't. Maybe I am old school, but I believe that to be main eventing WrestleMania, you should have had a long reign with the Intercontinental Championship, have had multiple entertaining feuds with different superstars, have made the transition to where you have been wrestling and beating main eventers for quite some time, maybe even a King of the Ring win (like that matters these days, anyways.) He has had none of the above, unless you count Rey Mysterio and his recent World Heavyweight Championship match.
I understand that he has been around the wrestling scene for awhile, but he hasn't been in the WWE for long at all. I am a HUGE fan of Daniel Bryan, and he's been in wrestling for awhile, too. However, I don't believe he should be a main eventer either.
Now before I go into making a list, I want to state that I thought the exact same thing about Sheamus winning the WWE Championship, although it was refreshing to get the strap off of John Cena. And it had NOTHING to do with him "brown nosing Triple H. But, let's take a look at a list of previous WWE Champions and WrestleMania main eventers. We will start out with the man who everyone says was handed everything, Triple H.
-Debuted in WWE: May 1995
-Won 1st WWE Championship: August 23, 1999 (Over 4 years.)
- Main Evented 1st WrestleMania: April 2, 2000 (Almost 5 years.)
-Debuted in WWE: 1988 (We will go with his 2nd hiring, as he was fired shortly after his 1st)
- Main Evented 1st WrestleMania: April 2, 1995 (7 years.)
-Won 1st WWE Championship: March 31, 1996 (8 years.)
-Debuted in WWE: January 31, 2000
-Won 1st WWE Championship: February 15, 2004 (4 years.)
- Main Evented 1st WrestleMania: March 14, 2004 (4 years.)
-Debuted in WWE: November 1996
-Won 1st WWE Championship: November 15, 1998 (2 years.)
- Main Evented 1st WrestleMania: March 28, 1999 (A little over 2 years.)
-Debuted in WWE: August 9, 1999.
-Won 1st WWE Championship: December 9, 2001. (Over 2 years.)
- Main Evented 1st WrestleMania: March 17, 2002. (Over 2 and a half years.)
-Debuted in WWE: 1998
-Won 1st WWE Championship: January 8, 2006. (8 years.)
- Main Evented 1st WrestleMania: March 30, 2008 (10 years.)
Okay. Now I am thinking of a rebuttal against this. “This was the past, and people from the Attitude Era. You are living in the past.” No. I am not. Here are a list of RECENT WWE Champions and WrestleMania Main Eventers:
-Debuted in WWE: June 27, 2002
-Won 1st WWE Championship: April 3, 2005 (A little under 3 years.)
- Main Evented 1st WrestleMania: April 3, 2005
-Debuted in WWE: April 25, 2002
-Won 1st WWE Championship: August 15, 2004 (I will count World Heavyweight Championship – a little under 2 years.)
- Main Evented 1st WrestleMania: April 2, 2006 (Just under 4 years.)
-Debuted in WWE: May 9, 2002.
-Won 1st WWE Championship: April 3, 2005 (World Heavyweight Championship - Just under 3 years)
- Main Evented 1st WrestleMania: April 2, 2005
-Debuted in WWE: (I will go with his 1st match) September 1, 2006
-Won 1st WWE Championship: November 22, 2010 (A little over 4 years.)
- Main Evented 1st WrestleMania: Never has yet.
Now let's compare these people with Alberto Del Rio. He has not had any NOTABLE feuds, besides Rey Mysterio. He has not had any Championship reigns. He SHOULD have won King of the Ring, but didn't.
Alberto Del Rio debuted on WWE TV during Smackdown on June 25th, 2010. That was not even 8 months ago, and he will be main eventing WrestleMania on April 3rd, 2011. 10 months after he debuted on Smackdown. He wasn't even around during WrestleMania last year, but this year he is main eventing it. Once again, I am a fan of Alberto Del Rio. He is the future of WWE...however, I don't think that future should be RIGHT NOW. I believe he should have been pushed and built up a bit more. Not necessarily for 2-4 years, as WWE needs fresh faces now. But give him at LEAST a match at WrestleMania before having him main event it.
So, I think that about sums up my argument. Now, I know there are a few like Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar that rose pretty fast, but not as fast as Del Rio. I am not here to make any enemies. This is the best Wrestling Forum the internet has to offer, and I think I have found a place where I can post my thoughts and comments without having to worry about getting into an internet insult fight with someone. . I am just stating facts...but you already know that.
