Another WCW mistake?

I was reading Wikipedia today doing some research and found an interesting fact. I've heard that SCSA was released from the WCW and basically told he would never make it. That was, I think, a mistake given his success in the WWE. I read today, however, that Batista (Dave Bautista) also first tried out at WCW and was told the same thing. They cite his book as a source, but can anyone confirm that?

Any other people that WCW turned down or let go as a failure who ended up "making it big" in other promotions? I'm just curious.

Had no idea about Batista, but in truth.. can't see how he would have made any difference, they already had an intense all be it green big man in Goldberg and there was nothing he could do to eventually stop WWE winning.

Maybe Batista could have joined NWO though becoming the eventual 57th member of the group.

One that instantly comes to my mind is Mick Foley.

EDIT: Also add the Radicalz to that list.. when WCW let them go, they instantly lost four of the best workers they had in many people's eyes.

The Radicals and Jericho made it pretty big in the WWF, once they left WCW.

But WCW has a washlist of people who were misused.
To be honest, I don´t think WCW made mistake with Batista, considering his age. Batista wasn´t even supposed to be pushed the way he was, once he was on the main roster.

Triple H comes to mind. They never really did much with him other than a feud with Alex Wright and a forgotten tag team with William Regal. He wanted to get pushed as a singles wrestler but they turned it down, you know, being WCW.

As for Batista, it's a good thing he was let go from the Power Plant. He probably would have been a bodyguard for 3 Count or something even more ridiculous.

WCW Made a lot of mistakes but as far as Austin goes... Its hard to say. I've seen some of his matches in WCW, mostly stuff with him and Pillman and he was good but he didn't have the attitude or teh aggression that served him so well in wwe. That didnt really start until ecw let him come in and just rant about wcw. SO I can't really say it was a mistake because at the time he was just another midcard level guy

You need to watch some his matches with Steamboat. You could sort of see "Stone Cold" in there but with a lot more technical wrestling. With the right booking I think Austin could have been a 1 or 2 time WCW Champion but nothing to the extent of his WWF popularity. Eric Bischoff firing him over the phone was the best thing that ever happened to his career.

Don't think WCW dropped the ball with HHH. People need to stop this perpetual myth that he is some kind of God.if Vince hadnt shoved him down our throats from the very first vignette he woulda maxed out as a mid card jobber. He owes his career to HBK and we all know it!

He was never really given a chance to succeed there. I'm sure they didn't expect much from him given his gimmick but neither did they expect anything from Steve Austin and it back-fired on them.

Without doubt its when they failed to renew The Undertaker's contract. Sure he wouldn't have been the Deadman, but him leaving let the WWE get their hands on a guy who would become one of the biggest names in wrestling history.
