The problem with Matt and his wrestling is that he was in the WWE. And the WWE has a video game mentality when it comes to their wrestling. Let me elaborate.
When the WWE began to make video games, they began a trend where every wrestler needed "signature maneuvers" to stand out from the crowd. Wrestler needed to distinguish themselves, because the trend in fighting games was that every character had to have unique moves, creating variety in gameplay. Thus, all WWE Superstars became trapped in a game of "Street Fighter", which limited their movesets for the sake of better tie-in marketing.
Thus, when capeable wrestlers go to the WWE, they get cornered into only being allowed up to three "awesome" maneuvers. Look at Rey Mysterio. Everyone complains that he's gotten slow in his day, that his knees are so banged up that he can no longer perform like he did ten years ago. But do you really think Rey isn't capeable anymore? No, he performs only a certain set of moves because the WWE wants to create characters with identifiable maneuvers. Jim Ross even said it recently that WWE's style of storytelling requires that wrestlers only do a few awesome maneuvers, so that fans have a time to "digest" the athleticism. In the WWE, the high-flying lucha-libre style isn't used because the WWE has a mentality that too many high spots cheapen the value of said spots.
Also, signature moves are integral in storytelling. They allow fans to anticipate upcoming maneuvers, and it is a major part of audience participation. It looks great once televised to see the crowds reactions when they know a move is coming. Look at how they react to HBK tuning up the band, or Orton doing his fist pound thing.
Now back to Matt Hardy. Was he an incapable wrestler in WWE? No. He was an unfortunate jobber caught playing under WWE's "3 moves per wrestler" ideology.
Now, after coming to TNA, we have actually seen a different Matt Hardy. Thankfully, we have seen Matt the performer. I have pleasantly surprised to see that in TNA, Matt Hardy is allowed to expand his move-set. This has created for some interesting matches he has had against RVD, and tonight against AJ styles. The fact that Hardy is allowed to expand his move-set means that his matches are worth watching, because it isn't the same 3 recycled moves. Sure he still uses the Side Effect and the Twist of Hate, but he gets to sprinkle in some surprises that keep the matches interesting to watch.
To his credit, Matt Hardy has taken TNA's freedom in the ring and he has capitalized on it by making a conscious effort to expand his move-set. And for that, I say he should be commended.
Ive been happy with Matt Hardy's matches in TNA. Now if he can only stay off the mic and stop dwelling on his lack of a push in the WWE, he can stop being such an unlikeable character.
While I can agree with you to some degree aboout the Video Game mentality that puts the blame entirely on the WWE about Matt not being successful there, which cannot be further from the truth.
A lto of people ther has signature moves but know how to spread them during the match and do even a couple more or know how to manage them during a match. The problem with Hardy is that he used his same spots over and over again in the exact same order no mather if he was a Heel or a face.
That and also really bad luck, everytime there was going to be somethign about him, he got hurt (not his fault), his Appendix, his Hand, his knee, also his constant whinning during his runs with the company didn't help matters at all.
But for all you that at somepoint thing that WWE never pushed him, they tried several times and nothing worked, since the beginning Jeff was the more charismatic form the two (Charismatic only, Matt is the best technician from the two) and that was why he was pushed more.
When Matt was with Lita he was pushed because the two complemented each other very well, but Lita got way more over and Matt started to hold her back a little, then they splitted them up with Matt turning on Littla and Jeff, in the end it didn't work eventhough they tried several times during the years. Only afer she turned heel it actually worked and Matt was pushed a few times but in the end it always got him the same result.
And Sorry but bitching about your job on the Internet (thing he did since 2005) is never going to help matters with you employer.
Good to see he is way happy on TNA and is able to perform well, There he is the one with experience and the Veteran on the job, on WWE; while you think he was, he was not, that also didn't help matters with him.
