Y'all know I'm one of those indy marks. But sometimes though - and I touched on this briefly in the ROH thread - technical wrestling and impressive movesets just isn't enough in certain situations.

Taking Cena as an example since he was mentioned: I honestly think he is (or, at least, can sometimes be) more than a competent worker... it's just that he wrestles a totally different style of match. Say if you take a classic Cena match - say, for example, his last man standing match against Umaga - and imagine rebooking it with Mike Quackenbush or Naomichi Marufuji or someone like that in his place... it just won't work. It would be like saying The Dark Knight would be a better film if it were directed by Akira Kurosawa, although that style is completely inappropriate for the typical Batman-viewing audience.

I think what WWTNAmark was trying to get at is: being a fan of technical wrestling doesn't make you superior, it just makes you a different kind of mark.

Hmm....You have a point Necro. Though....I'm just baffled that some people hate Indys or International wrestling JUST because its not easy to understand or there is no entertainment. Couldn't the wrestling itself be the entertainment? Isn't that the point of a WRESTLING show? The action in the ring and how they perform rather than the backstage antics.

His match against Roderick Strong at Supercard of Honor that went like 59 minutes is a classic, five star match.

I'm sure he's probably went the full broadway a few times in ROH, but I've yet to watch his entire title reign.

The Dark Knight would be a better film if it were directed by Akira Kurosawa, although that style is completely inappropriate for the typical Batman-viewing audience.

Well honestly i personally like wrestling, its a little harder to enjoy it if you have bad quality lighting or they dont speak your launge and you dont know the wrestlers involved... it makes it difficult.

but some people dont watch small low budget movies or like unfamiler things..... its like watching a video of a bunch of guys togther playing Football in a field, even if the players are much more talented and the game is much more compeling and much better played than any recent NFL game, alot of people wouldnt care, cause its not a big budget, well lit game with thousands of fans cheering, with sponsers, Play by Play and the Players they know and are familer with....... cause to some people its cause they know the product and its the whole atomsphere of it....... i personally like matches.. but dont get me wrong im not gonna watch a few teenagers in a gym inside a ring on youtube and go crazy about how great they are... but there is some indy stuff i really like..... Some i feel are greatly overated

Anyway... although production has never bothered me all that much, you unfortunately made a good point. By and large, it's a product of our generation in "the noughties" that expects everything to be as sleek and smoothly presented to them as possible - from movies, music videos, gadgets, internet pages and apparently pro wrestling shows. I guess it shows how important the millions (and millions) of dollars vince and co spend on producing their shows really is.

But... In a way... I kinda mark out for the low budget/small crowd/high-school gym feel of the indies. It makes me feel like I'm watching some seedy, underground thing that I shouldn't be watching. It's like the punk to WWE's prog rock. Proper counterculture shit, in a wrestling sense.

More the reason why it shouldn't be a problem. Wrestling is a universal language with variants. I don't let the Japanese Commentators stop me from watching NJPW or NOAH.(I'm used to anime)

Yes i stand by with my statment.... im not gonna go crazy for a wrestler if i cant take him seriously, im not gonna go nuts for a outof shape, normal looking guy with cut off shorts and a tank top in a gym just cause he can do a high jump and flip........ im saying i fall in to that catorgory some what, but then again i do look at some crappy production low rent wrestling and the matches are soo great you cant ignore it, i got a PWG DVD at best buy and i just bought it to be buying it never heard of the promotion and its a 3 disc best of and i love that DVD, it has some great matches on there........ and its not about the money its how its marketed, just like you love that underground bad production low rent looking wrestling, ECW made a living out of marketing that as the Cool thing and your much smarter buy watching this underground stuff and cooler cause your rebeling against the normal and the popular product, cause your not a sheep....... but yes you have to expect some people perfer style and production value with there wrestling, some dont care, some hate big over blown production........ im about to sound nerdy here but i recently start watching Dragon Ball Z, and i watched it on DVD and there was a guy on the forums saying how dumb people are for putting the english translation and not leave it in its orginal japanese translastion and read the sub titles cause its much more dramtic.... Alot of people dont want to read subtitles or watch wrestling in a different launge cause its just too much work for them and its just not enjoyable for them so i understand it..... i personall watch very little japan wrestling and i loved some Super J cup stuff and Misawa (hope im spelling it right).

I wont Watch there weekly show and i wont be emtionally invested in it but like i said i do watch some matches and like and even love them but i cant watch it as a weekly show, i perfer to do like i do with ROH and TNA, read what match people are buzzing about and watch them or watch complition DVDs.......... and like the point i made alot of people like the whole atmosphere and they like the product and they liek the american style........... i cant def understand why some would like indy stuff and international stuff and i can certainly see why they wouldnt...... just like Misawa and Kawada, i thought there match was good, but i didnt know these men, or there history so the match would mean much less....... imagine HHH and Undertkaers match at Mania, and some kid who only knows puro wrestling sees it and has no idea who HHH is or Undertaker is, he has no idea about the streak, he has no idea what WM is about.... that take alot away from the match.
