Okay, it's June 20th and I'm already wishing the season started this Saturday. So, I wanna know what teams people are expecting to win their conference? Here's my list (by conference):
~BCS Conferences~
ACC: Miami (FL) ~ I really expect these guys to blow up a wounded Ohio State and ride that momentum to an ACC Championship.
Secondary Choice: Virgina Tech ~ Less of a pick, more of "betting on the Tiger Woods of the ACC".
Big 12: Oklahoma ~ Texas looks to rebound for a terrible year, but I don't see them rebounding over Oklahoma. The Sooners are JR's favorite, and my Big 12 pick.
Secondary: Texas A&M ~ I can't explain it, but I like Texas A&M as the Dark Horse this year over the rest of the conference. I like their QB Tannehill.
Big East: Pittsburgh ~ Look, I'm not gonna lie: I'm pulling shit out of my hat here. Most of the Big East teams are gonna be terrible or rebuilding. This conference won't deserve a BCS bowl this year.
Secondary Choice: Connecticut ~ Last year's champ.
Big Ten: Nebraska ~ The best team in the conference this year will be the newest team. Nebraska's defense, Polini's coaching, and Martinez is crazily fun to watch. They might not sweep through the conference, but I expect them to win their division and the first title game.
Secondary Choice: Northwestern ~ Calm yo' tits. Northwestern has almost their entire offense back this year with the nation's most experience (by number of combined starts) offensive line, Dan Persa, who I believe will give Martinez a run for his money as Big Ten player of the year, and Coach Fitzgerald (who is one of the best young coaches in the game today).
PAC-12: Oregon ~ Shocker of this entire post! Oregon has dominated the conference the last two years and I expect it to happen again. Hopefully they'll pick up their first bowl win in the last two years (unless they run into another team QB'd by a player who's getting illegal money...)
Secondary: Standford ~ Andrew Luck is back but their coach is gone. Had their coach remained I would've had a time for my conference favorite. Stanford is still the 2nd best team in the conference by far.
SEC: Alabama ~ Returning Trent Richardson in the backfield with probably the best defensive line in the conference in front of him makes 'Bama my favorite (as much as I hurts me to say that). They need to beat LSU though.
Secondary: South Carolina ~ I was going to put LSU here, but LSU is in the same conference as Alabama. South Carolina has a pathetic East division to deal with. They should win the East and the Old Ball Coach could bust out and win the title game to be the SEC Champs.
~Non-BCS Conferences~
Conference USA: UCF ~ Repeat!
Mid-America Conference: Northern Illinois ~ Went Undefeated in the conference during the regular season but lost the title game. Also had one of the top rushing attacks last year (by statistics).
Mountain West: TCU ~ They're going to the Big East to try and rescue that conference, but first they have to dominate the MW again.
Sun Belt: Troy ~ I can't defend this one at all.
WAC: Boise State ~ Nevada lost their awesome QB, so there are not any teams to challenge Boise State's dominance.
Great Games on the Schedule (In No particular order):
Oregon vs LSU @ Cowboy's Stadium on Sep 3rd ~ Are you kidding me? The Mad Hatter vs Chip Kelly? This game promises to be a barn burner.
TCU vs Boise State on Nov 12th ~ Who can't get pumped up for a regular season match up between the two best non-AQ conference teams?!?
Ohio State vs Nebraska on Oct 8th ~ A Neutered Ohio State walts in to Nebraska with "all" of the suspended players back. This is Nebraska's second "Welcome" game in the Big Ten, but this time Nebraska is playing the "King of the Big Ten".
Iron Bowl on Nov 26th ~ On both a personal level and a fan level, this game will be anticipated. 'Bama is looking for some pay back and Auburn is looking to build a winning streak against Nick Saban.
Texas A&M vs Oklahoma on Nov 5th ~ This (if I'm right) should be the de facto Big 12 title game.
Oregon vs Stanford on Nov 12th ~ Two of the three teams from the PAC-12 that the nation cares about (and the only two that are bowl eligible) going at it. Remember to piss before the game--the offenses will be lighting it up all night.
