Let's see. I just finished season 2019/2020 as both manager of Feyenoord and The Netherlands. Quick note is that during the season I applied to become manager of France under 23 and I could've gone to the Olympics, but when they accepted me as manager I actually declined, because I wasn't sure if I could manage 3 teams at once, even if it was for only 1 Summer. And The Netherlands was priority number 1 with the European Cup coming after the season.
Well, with Feyenoord I won the Dutch Cup for the 5th time in a row. I won it with a team that consisted with players that were a mix of 2nd and 3th tier players, so that my most important players wouldn't get injured for playing a match I would've won nonetheless.
For about 2 or 3 seasons my team has improved so much overall that I can basically play with my second team in the Dutch Cup and evidently still win it. But more importantly is that I can let youth players play in a team that is already on a roll, so that they also play good and get better with relative ease.
Well, I also won the Dutch League with ease. I had a lead of 19 points on the number 2. It was a really good season, because I let a bunch of young players play a lot of matches and they improved greatly so I was really content with that, only minor bug is that one of my future starting CB's, that I bought for only 825K left for Juventus for 12.5 million euro's, because the fucking chairman accepted the bid.
You know, they should really let you have the option to let the manager decide that for himself, if the club he is managing is already rich enough. Which Feyenoord is, because we have like 100+ million in the vault.
But in the end it's not really bad, since I have like 8 CB's with a 3.5/4 star rating and I really needed to sell 1, because I had a guy on loan coming back and he came from my youth, and he will always get preferential treatment.
Anyways, Dutch League and Cup are in the bag and in the Champions League I actually quite easily got through to the Semi Final and there I faced PSG. I was actually lolling at this point, because after facing Man City and Chelsea and beating them quite easily I thought I was going to stroll to the finals and likely face Man Utd.
Boy was I wrong. First leg in Parc Des Princes, I was really lucky it ended in a 0-0 draw, they were controlling the match and were having their way with me. I was really surprised by that it stayed 0-0 and was thanking my keeper, Areolá, who I ironically got for free, from guess who? PSG.
So I still was thinking I was going to stroll through to the finals, because the way I usually won the bulk of my more important European matches was, because I have a really strong record at home. I don't think I've ever lost at home.
So second leg starts and as expected, the match is completely under my control and I score. So I'm even more under the assumption I'm about to take this match. Match continues as it is, but suddenly in the fucking 88th minute, they score and the score is tied at 1-1. At that point I know I'm doomed and my season is over, because at that point I had already won the other prices.
PSG in the end did face Man Utd. I attended the final, lol had nothing better to do, because I'm also the manager of The Netherlands and both teams had 1 Dutch player. Match was mostly PSG in control, but nobody scored for 120 minutes, so it went to a penalty shootout~! PSG won, I was pissed, because I actually should've won the Semi final.
Midways through the season I also played the WC for Clubs, because I won the CL the year before and won it for the second time in a row. Nothing special though, every European club wins that competition.
So, the club season was over, but the European Cup was looming.
I've been managing Holland now for 4 years and I used the tactic that Holland was using already. It was decent when it mattered, but in friendly matches the results varied a lot. I lost in the quarter final of the WC to eventual winner Russio in 2016 and relatively easily went to the EC in 2017, but I had a slow start and only had a 1 point margin at the number 2. And I had a really easy qualifying group.
So in the course of this season I decided to use my club team strategy and had 2 friendlies. One against England and one against Australia. They both went fine and I won fairly easily.
So, onto the EC in Belgium, with 1 of my former club players still injured. I sold him at the beginning of the season for 15 million after the chairman accepted, again I was pissed, because I really liked him, since he was my best youth I ever had. He was the only injured player going into the tournament.
Started the tournament against Belgium, had a 0-0 draw, they were better. Next match was against Bosnia and I won easily. Then played against Croatia, who had won the previous 2 matches already, thus was placed already and won easily.
My goal was reaching the quarter final, so I was thinking I had already reached that and was happy, until I saw my opponont: Belgium. Again. I was baffled, because I thought they finished third, but the EC changed in format in 2016, so I faced them again...
At this point my injured player was healed again and i won easily with 3-1 after they got 2 red cards.
Next opponent was Portugal and I actually won easily. My striker was playing top-notch and really hit his stride after the group stages.
And then I got Spain in the Semi Final. The reigning European Champion. I was really dreading this match and already though that that was it.
So the match started and within 20 minutes I had already scored twice and I was owning them. I was surprised but content the match was over that quickly. But I was amazed at the final score of the match: 6-0.
My striker scored 3 times, one guy with 4 assists and 3 guys with a score above the 9.0. Only minor point was that my striker was suspended because he collected 2 yellow cards over the course of the tournament.
Onto the Final!
But who was my opponent? Croatia. This really was the tournament of recurring opponents.
At this point I thought I had already won the Cup. I already beat them easily and just won 6-0 from Spain.
But fuck they were tough, they controlled the entire match. In the end I won very luckily with 2-0 and became European Champion.
My striker became the Golden Boot winner with 8 goals.
That was basically my last season.
Oh a totally unrelated note: 1.FC Köln has this striker and he is ungodly awesome. he has scored 70 times in 45 National games, thus surpassing Gerd Müller and I want him so badly. Too bad his price tag is 16 million and buying him will probably cost me at least 25 million and I will not pay that. He is 24 now and I've been following him since he was at least 17 and I so desperately want him, but I haven't needed him at all during that time, even though he is better than my first striker.
If I could've snatched him up during that time period for a cheap price, I would've, but I always thought that I didn't needed him for that price.
