Since people are talking about the Leeds manager (last few pages at least
), I thought I'd share my opinion as a Leeds fan with some of the names discussed.
Di Canio- No thanks, for a start, he's at a club and Bates won't pay compensation because he's a grade A knob. Secondly, Di Canio is still unproven at this level and after going for Blackwell, Wise, McAllister and Grayson, who were all relatively new to managing, we need an experienced man to get us back to the Prem.
Warnock- Possible but doubtful. He's openly stated before that he doesn't like Leeds and I doubt Bates would want to work with somebody as openly criticising as him.
McCarthy- I hope so, but again, I don't think Bates would want to work with him. Their egos together may break the universe.
Other names being discussed:
Freedman- At a club already, plus inexperienced. No thanks.
Clark- See Freedman & Di Canio.
Robinson- See Freedman, Di Canio & Clark.
Antic- Would be a dream manager for us. Hugely experienced, but I can't see us being able to afford his wages.
Bruce- Man Utd legend so no thanks.
Ince- See Bruce.
Redfearn- Too similar to Grayson. We need somebody that will come in and shake everything up.
Di Matteo- Currently employed in the backroom staff at Chelsea, but with their form recently, AVB could get sacked yet- causing Di Matteo to probably become unemployed. MK Dons & West Brom under him were both successful, and the football they played was out of this world. Bates knows him from Chelsea so may still be in touch. Di Matteo's inexperienced but I hope we get him over others.
So in summary, McCarthy or Di Matteo please.
Of course, knowing Bates, we'll probably get Graeme Sounness or Gareth Southgate.
