Yeah, I know. Not necessarily adamant about self diagnosis but the only reason I'm remotely interested in figuring out the cause of my knee ailments is:
1. It's been a real pain in the ass.
2. It involves musculoskeletal anatomy which is right down my alley in the field of human anatomy.
I managed to pull off a year of internship with some physical therapists. Combined with all the websites I visited and I think I nailed the source on the head. I could be wrong though since a discoid meniscus, especially of the bilateral variety, is a pretty rare deformity. Could be that or just chondromalacia. Either way, it sucks.
