try an ipconfig /release then do ipconfig /renew (In command prompt) tell me if you still get 0s

Check if your cable is seated properly. Take it out, plus it back in and make sure you hear a click.

If that doesn't work, try a new cable.

I disagree. You know how many times I've seen people spend hours working an issue, and all it turned out to be was a loose cable or a bad one?

Anytime I see the dreaded up/down I always have my guy check the cable.

It's funny. When I was school I was in the same "OSI modem can eat my balls" boat.

Then I started working in the field. It's saved my ass.

On another note. Apparently configuring a password under VTY is kinda important.
