On the aspect of writing, you are completely right. I don't know. On the aspect of reading, I feel I have a say because I do read them when things are slow here. From what I have gathered, it appears as if players choose a character and then proceed to write the promos for said character helping them to develop their own identity. The creative’s for said eFed then go into writing the storyline and providing angles for which they plan to take the particular feud in question. This is quite similar to creating a LARPing character from a made up location and then taking that character on adventures in a world that has been predetermined by the creators of the event with the final "winning" country/characters place of origin being the winner in the end.

Sorry, but they do sound similar to me, but that's just my own personal thoughts. It's nothing bad, nor meant to be something as a negative. I just see them both in the same light because they both involve creating fantasy characters to play in a world that has/is being written by someone else; i.e. World of Warcraft.
