HDMI cable for the Wii? Those require an adapter, right? I heard those adapters were sort of rubbish, so I went the route of just replacing the composite cables that came with the system with component cables instead. If you could point me in the direction of a quality adapter, though, I'd love to check it out.
Honestly I found the same thing with the Adapter after I drop the $$ on it. I went the similar route you have and just switched to the cables after the converter went kaput. It worked well for about 3 months until the 1 year old got a hold of it. The video from 480 to 720 shows a definite change, but I found myself using 720 more that 1080 simply because the games you see on the Wii. I didn't have too much of an issue from the aspect of display (then again, to me it all depends on what you’re watching as to what I'd prefer to be in 1080 or not) but the biggest problem is that it's far too easy to destroy. As you can see below, it's just too small of a product to be protected from the destructive forces known as children.
