If you're bought up around it, then you get an ear for the sounds. I can tune my ears to many different accents but it takes time. The same reason they dub or subtitle your movies or tv is the same reason they originally dubbed Mad Max for American release and provide subtitles for Swamp People. It can be hard to decipher for some. I used to work with this Welsh guy and at first I had no idea what he was saying. Seriously I understood about 1 word in 10! It didn't take long for me to get past that though, you have to know what you're listening for
Tis true, I need a translator for lots of UK places; Newcastle, Glasgow, some parts of Wales, Yorkshire etc.
