Most of the younger breed support the heels. It makes them feel cooler and safer. The same way that a lot of young teens embrace so called hardcore genre stuff, like metal or rap music or horror movies and what have you. Although they would never admit it, that stuff scares them at least a little and the logic being that if you attempt to have an affinity with it, then you will be safe from it. Or to spell it out further - you're safe from rappers shooting you (because you're 'down' with that), metal musicians drinking your blood (because you also 'worship' Satan) or the monsters in your nightmares (because you LOVE vampires or some shit).

That, and, more importantly when you are young you lack your own identity so you see the things you like as a reflection of who you are, so it helps people feel like they belong somewhere. Really, at the end of the day - it's just something you like. Not a defining part of your character.
