The saying has more truth than most understand. I enjoyed every second when my children were first born, but I will tell you this. The older they get, the more enjoyment they become. Sure they do the dumb things that children (and a lot of teenagers to early 20s people to be honest) do, but they also do so much when thinking of you. Example, my wife took the kiddos for some ice cream today. While in line, my 4 year old suggested that they pick some up to take home to me. When asked which kind, my daughter replied "The Green Chocolate (mint chocolate chip) because that's Daddy's favorite!"
For a 4 year old to go out of her way to remember what her dads favorite thing is, be it as simple as ice cream or as complex as in I like Austin Aries because he work rate (yes, my daughter quoted me on that), tends to make a sense of pride swell in your gut. They are like a wine or a scotch Poot - Sure sometimes they get you angrier than you could imagine, but they only get better and bolder with time.
And don’t worry about beating that dead horse. When I had my youngest son, I literally told his entire story to every co worker I saw... Even if I was meeting them for the first time.
