Sometimes life isn't very nice. That aforementioned teacher was dating another teacher during the time I was one of her students. He was an alcoholic who was trying to get his life together but one night he relapsed and fell down a flight of stairs. He didn't live through that. She became an alcoholic because of it.

It isn't life's fault. It was her fault. I just found out more details. For the sake of sanity I'm going to refer to them as Ms. L and Mr. D.

The reason Mr.D was an alcoholic was because his wife left him after he had an affair with Ms. L. She ruined his life and he would remind her of this whenever they got into an argument. He went on a bender one night and mysteriously fell to his death. ????

Back to the present situation.
She tried to say the boyfriend committed suicide, even wrote a suicide note for him posthumously. It the police all of 1 hour to see through her shit and arrest her.

Sitcoms don't have bad people. Sitcoms are filled with various forms of shitty people. That's why there is a story, because if they weren't all shitty people, there would be no drama.
