Oh, and Skyfall should have gotten its Best Picture nomination, too.

I watched Skyfall last night. It was a good film, but I think the highlight wasn't the story of the movie but Javier. I liked that there was such a contrast in the two characters - Craig being the straight to kicking of the ass and Javier being the ex-agent who fought with his brains. However, I did not think of this film as being the best in the Bond series. Am I missing something with this film that should have given it the nod to be in the Best Picture category, Ape? Or should it have gotten the nod because last year had such a lack-luster amount of films worthy of the being put into the Best Picture category?


*Disclaimer* So you know, I am asking a legit question because I was expecting so much more from the film. Perhaps a second or third viewing would give light to more depth in the film.

Because the praise for his work was hyperbolic, and kowtowing just to appeal to the perception of the general public would have been bullshit. There were other directors who were far more deserving.

Affleck developing into a great director isn't reason enough to toss trinkets his way, imo. He's going to be making films for years, so I see no point in jumping the gun. They should just wait until he actually deserves it. (Of course, Scorsese got his statue for a lesser work like The Departed when he should have been acknowledged for Goodfellas, which is his masterpiece. So I'm keenly aware of how the whole thing is pretty silly.)

So you're saying an Oscar would be a little bit too much of a congratulation for the equivalent of graduating from crayons to pencils??? lol But yeah, I hear what you're saying about Scorsese. They should be throwing awards at Goodfellas every year just to make up for it.
