I've seen this. It's akin to the "Joss Whedon effect". That's where you get fans of a show who actually come to believe that it is somehow a part of them and they of it. They schedule their weekly viewing of it like some religious spectacle that's coupled with snacks and sodas instead of wafers and sodomy. (!) They get together with their friends ("You're Marshall! NO! YOU'RE Marshall!!!") for episode marathons and discuss at length overly derived meaning from each episode and put so much energy into understanding Ted Mosby.

Which is fine, if you have nothing else going on.

I thought that was the "Kevin Smith effect"

That win for him was more of a lifetime achievement award or something. I mean, he's made much stronger films, so it was strange to see that be the one where he finally won the award. 2006 not being a particularly strong year played a big part in it, though.

Whedon got to the screen first, so I give it to him.

In any case, as we've talked about before, the Oscars is one huge misguided circle jerk. So, yeah, there's that.

Fair point but I'd still give it to Kevin because Joss still makes good movies.

We're the only smart people so only we get to decide which movies were good and we're only picking the 'smart' movies.

    Do I irk you?

I think Bear likes sitcoms because they are just kind of a release from real life in a humorous way... I don't know if it's a loyalty thing. I still like how I met your mother, I mean I would rather watch new episodes of ben and kate but HIMYM will do.
