on the one end, you've got the "Atlas Shrugged" crowd, who believe that government should stay out of just about everything. These are the guys like Rand Paul that want to get rid of the safety net, privatize water, electric and emergency services all over the country, and refuses to look at states like Texas where that de-regulation turned into a circus. These guys are the most likely group, in my view, to legalize weed on a federal level
Group 2 is the Tea Party. Also known as the Insane racist party, or TeaHadists, depending on the website. These guys are so into States rights and abolishing Federal mandates wherever possible that there are members behind letting the states decide (These are also the same tools that stand in the way of marriage equality, but honestly so does the rest of their party, even the "Libertarians" who believe the institution of marriage should be gotten rid of.
Group 3 is the old-school conservative. The old heart of the GOP. However, since the internal takeover of the Heritage Foundation by the Heritage Action guys (Tea Party on Steroids), this group has become more and more endangered. Which is almost a shame, because it's the group that has the people most willing to compromise, though to be fair they are also the least likely group to support legalization.
