I like some heavy metal songs and think they have some nice melodies but then the singer would start screaming and totally ruin the song...

i guess my point is, how people can listen to and enjoy heavy metal singers screaming like an exorcism is been performed on them...il never know

Depends on the band, and the type of screaming.
On one hand, we have the Dani Filth style evidenced below

In that one, he never sings normally, and I thought for years that was just Dani's voice. However with the way the band is, I honestly could not imagine any other type of singing for their music, it would be like replacing Peter Steele, or Lemmy Kilmister
Then we have the newer version, the sing and scream, evidenced by Adam Gontier. This one seems to be more popular, and in some songs serves to draw more attention to specific lyrics in the song, which I think is the purpose of it. I like it because it keeps the song fresh

I don't know if Adam ever actually learned how to sing, since he seems to go from that sing-speaking that categorizes shitty musicals into his all-out rage scream

It's all about what you're into, what you might find acceptable. I think it's a waste of time trying to see appeal in things you clearly don't like already. But it's no reason to deride the likes of others (I don't think you were doing that btw), it just is what it is. How boring this world would be if we were all the same

yh i agree, the world needs diversity and i respect the people that have their own taste...

but that song you posted, cradle of filth...listening to that puts fear in to my soul lol, and i just cant bring myself to understanding what state of mind one has to be to enjoy that...

Well if it's any consolation Akbar, I like metal but I don't like that kind of metal. There are degrees, you know? We don't all enjoy the screaming

I like some Cradle stuff.

There's none of it I dislike, but I don't overly love much of their stuff.

yh i agree, the world needs diversity and i respect the people that have their own taste...

the funny thing is, that is probably one of their least objectionable songs. Most of their songs have some sort of story, as near as I can tell, that one is about a man who's love was raped and killed by five men as she picked herbs at night. The song talks about the men's lust for her ("By her taffeta lay of her hips that held sway") and his destined love for her. It eventually leads up to his killing of the men and his suicide ("I embrace where lovers rot"). He is haunted by her ghost in the fog.

As far as the state of mind needed to embrace those songs? teenage angst seems to work rather well, or at least it did when I was 15

I am not sure that is totally healthy, but I was around the same age when I started listening to Type O Negative and the Early Cure stuff, so I can't throw stones :P

Haha, My brother and some really hot Goth chick used to hang our, so I got into this all around then. My brother was about 14, so I just got into it.

This, Led Zepp, Sabbath, Dimmu Borgir etc.

I was listening to Korn from 7ish. Lmao.

I always did go against the grain - Having said that, I'm perfectly normal now anyway...well, I'm nicer behaved than most people who followed normal pop trends etc.
