Last night’s Finn Balor vs. Samoa Joe finish shocked several fans, who were almost certain that Samoa Joe would become NXT Champion. As it turns out, that may have been in the plans originally.
On this morning’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that when he was originally told about this match, he was told that Samoa Joe was expected to make his main roster debut after WrestleMania 32, and that he would lose the match to Balor.
Meltzer said some circumstances occurred in which modified the result, but that the WWE was going back and forth on the result for the match. At one point, Joe was set to win the title and remain on the NXT roster.
Meltzer speculated that Joe could be headed to the WWE main roster due to his loss, but couldn’t say that for sure.
It’s long been rumored that Balor could be headed to the main roster soon due to the nature of his contract, as well as the fact that longtime friends Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson are WWE-bound.
