As seen at the WWE NXT Takeover: Toronto event, Samoa Joe defeated Shinsuke Nakamura to win the WWE NXT World Title. According to reports, the title switch was done so that the program could continue. WWE officials reportedly felt that Nakamura winning again wouldn’t leave much left for the feud. A rematch between the two men is confirmed for the upcoming WWE NXT live event in Osaka, Japan. Also, the NXT live event in Melbourne, Australia will feature Samoa Joe vs. Shinsuke Nakamura in a cage match.
Some have noted that Samoa Joe’s title win likely means he won’t be called up to the main roster anytime soon, but sources say the win simply made the most sense. WWE officials reportedly believe that Nakamura doesn’t have to be beaten to remain over and WWE may be headed to a title program for Bobby Roode. If that is the case, Nakamura being the champion for that would make the most sense.
It should also be noted that several of the matches at WWE Takeover: Toronto featured last minute changes. Although not confirmed, it is believed that it may have been the tag-team matches, since there were plans for The Revival vs. TM-61 on the Australia tour.
