Chael Sonnen has claimed that Vince McMahon ‘had his reasons’ for not allowing CM Punk to accompany him to the octagon on Saturday night. Chael Sonnen is set to face Michael Bisping at UFC on FOX 2 on the night before the Royal Rumble PPV and Punk was originally going to be in Sonnen’s corner for the fight.
WWE CEO Vince McMahon vetoed Punk from appearing and told him that he would not be permitted to do so. Sonnen is fighting in Chicago – the hometown of CM Punk.
Sonnen told MMA reporter Ariel Helwani (of MMAFighting.com) that he will meet up with Punk after the fight for dinner. He also revealed that he is disappointed about the situation, but said he understands Vince’s decision.
On rumors that he will make his entrance to CM Punk’s theme music (Cult of Personality by Living Colour), he said that would not happen.
