Column: What Could Daniel Bryan’s Makeover Really Mean?

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but, SOMEONE IS GETTING A MAKEOVER!

Okay, I know that sounds a bit cheesy and somewhat girlish. But, Stephanie McMahon had the idea for it, so it’s not as if we didn’t expect it to sound that way.

Triple H and Vince McMahon can’t seem to see eye to eye on much lately, and as a result, they are disagreeing over Daniel Bryan. Vince doesn’t see much in Bryan. He sees him as a short, small troll. Meanwhile Triple H sees him as a money maker, as a great ring force.

Due to the back and forth, Stephanie decided to play mediator. As the daughter of Vince and the wife of The Game, she kind of finds herself in the middle a lot. So, this is not uncommon ground for the Billion Dollar Princess.

She figured that it would be a good idea if they gave Daniel Bryan a “corporate makeover”. That way, she lets Triple H have his favorite guy out there competing in quality matches. Yet she gives daddy the idea that Bryan will look like a possible champion.

The issue comes down really to Bryan. Will he allow himself to become the corporate stooge that several other memorable stars became at one point or another?

The Rock, Mankind, Stone Cold, even The Undertaker went with the boss’ vision. Mankind even wore a suit and tie, well, sort of. At least he had a tie.

I think it could be good for Bryan if they allowed him to be one of the new age corporate champions. Number one, it shows the faith they have in him. But two, it shows how the direction has changed in WWE.

Obviously guys like Rock and Austin had their spotlight time. And they deserved it as well. They are arguably the two biggest draws WWE ever had.

But each were part of the corporation in some way on their rise to stardom. This is essential to think of. Because there could be a big turn where Bryan goes heel and is a corporate stooge for Vince. But we could also see him as a face and keep to the Triple H side of the fence still. It could be interesting to see a Bryan turn now because not only would be shocking to see at this point, but it could be a good story.

You could say Bryan sold out to the boss, Vince McMahon. Yet he says that he did it because he knew he had to do it to survive in this WWE world. Yet Vince only made Bryan buy in because he wanted to get at The Game. It could slowly keep the build going for the Triple H/Vince storyline.

However if none of this “corporate makeover” has anything to do with that, then at least we still get to see the beard go down and hair trimmed up. God knows that needs to happen.

But that raises another question, does this make over happen only because the true WWE thought is that Bryan’s look is nuts?

At this point, he’s gotten fans in spite of his look. In fact, they even created a shirt around the beard. While I am not a major fan of the beard he has, you cannot deny that his fame has only been enhanced while he had it.

That leads yet again to another question.

Does Bryan even allow them to do a corporate makeover?

I mean, we don’t even know what they plan to do. But I’d assume one idea will be to get the beard cut. As a result of this, will fans allow the WWE to cut the now infamous beard?

I’m sure if Bryan went to the dark side, he’d shave the sucker off. But because he is a babyface, I cannot see him even trimming it. I feel bad for his Bella. Maybe he should buy her a Range Rover to make up for it?

The issue comes down to how he will be used. The cool part is that they are making such a big deal over him. Fans love Bryan, and he is obviously the most over guy they have. Sorry Punk.

As a result of his being over, I’m sure WWE has been contemplating ideas of making him a top guy. Bryan is young, 32 to be exact. This is about 4 years younger than John Cena. So it’s not as if he’s going to take the top guy role away. But to think he is not on the same level in popularity at least with WWE fans is inaccurate.

There is no demographic that hates Bryan fully. Every demo loves him as a broad rate. With Cena, it’s kind of “eh” for a few demos. Meanwhile he is huge for the most important demo for WWE, the family audience. Kids love him and want to see him, so that makes his merch go up. On top of that, his popularity is at an all-time high.

Yet the same can be said for Daniel Bryan. Interestingly enough, his popularity while high, is continuously improving. That being said, I feel that he could remain in the main event seat. But he has to do things that will keep him in that area.

It could be interesting if he did the corporation angle I mentioned above. But obviously WWE has plans for him and we will have to wait and see what they are.

Obviously there are several ways to utilize Bryan. He most certainly has a job for a long time with WWE and they have no plans on letting him go.

Plus due to him not having any major injuries in his WWE time, he is healthy and reliable for WWE. That is something even Cena cannot say.

All of that being said, he is perfect for a big role in the company at this point. Whether that is in the corporation or what have you. It really all depends on where WWE wants him.

Due to all of this, do not be surprised if WWE is just doing this “corporate makeover” idea as a way to begin pushing Bryan to the moon. They need another main event guy. It seems Ryback is not that person WWE wanted. Punk can only do so much and the same can be said for Cena.

The fact that Bryan is younger than both of them helps him out a lot for sure. But the number one reason to push Bryan is simply his overall skill.

No one is going to complain if Bryan is in the main event. No one can say he’s not worthy or does not deserve it. So that helps his cause. If I had to guess, I’d think WWE was possibly going to use Bryan as they did Chris Jericho during the early 2000’s.

But what do you think? Will WWE use Bryan as a new version of Chris Jericho? Could he be a new member of the new look Corporation? Let me know your thoughts below in the comment section.
