UPDATE: John Cena tweeted the following, confirming reports that he’ll be undergoing surgery tomorrow:
Rather upside down start to 2016 as tomorrow I will head to Birmingham for shoulder surgery. Life’s full of set backs but #nevergiveup
— John Cena (@JohnCena) January 7, 2016
ORIGINAL: According to sources, John Cena will undergo shoulder surgery and will likely miss this year’s WrestleMania 32 pay-per-view event.
The injury is believed to be a rotator cuff injury. If that is the case, Cena will be out 6-9 months which would have him miss the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 32 pay-per-view events.
Cena’s injury is the latest in a string of injuries to top WWE Superstars (Seth Rollins, Randy Orton) and mid-level talents such as Cesaro in recent months. With all the injuries, WWE brought back Chris Jericho on Monday’s WWE RAW broadcast and Brock Lesnar (with Paul Heyman) will be returning on next Monday’s RAW.
Cena just returned from a short absence off TV as he was filming a reality series for FOX. He was expected to continue his feud with United States Champion Alberto Del Rio until it was revealed within the last week or so that he needs surgery.
