The Miz claimed the WWE Intercontinental Championship for the seventh time at Extreme Rules on Sunday. Miz defeated Dean Ambrose to win the championship in a match where if Ambrose had been disqualified or counted out, he would have lost the title. That stipulation came into play as Maryse — in the process of being thrown out for slapping Miz in an attempt to get Ambrose DQ’d — distracted the referee on her way up the ramp. That allowed Miz to throw Ambrose into the referee from behind. As the referee argued with Ambrose over whether it was intentional, Miz hit Ambrose with the Skull-Crushing Finale to win the match and the title.
Ambrose’s title reign comes to an end after having won it on the January 3rd episode of Smackdown. You can see pics and video from the match below:
