— Two wrestling-themed films had their first screenings in the past week. The first, the French comedy Les Reines du ring (Queen of the Ring), screened at the European Film Market in Germany earlier this week. The film is about a female ex-con who, fresh out of prison, decides to become a WWE Diva to build a relationship with her wrestling-loving son. Eve, CM Punk and The Miz appear in cameos and several WWE-related materials appear within the film, which has its climax at a WWE event. WWE Studios is partnered with the producers and has first distribution rights in the US.

The second film, a short film about Rocky Jones who worked as Mike Masters in the WWWF, Florida and Los Angeles among others, was screened in advance of its festival run. The film is forty-one minutes and focuses on his decision to turn down a WWF job in favor of spending time with his newborn daughter. Little Guido and Kodiak Bear are among the wrestlers who appear in the film as students of Jones’.

— The New York Wrestling Connection in Deer Park, Long Island will run their biggest show of the year, the 2013 Psycho Circus on Saturday, February 23 at the NYWC Sportatorium. Here’s the card so far:

*Psycho Circus – Team Apollyon (Apollyon & Dickie Rodz & Rex Lawless & Ryan Rush) vs. Team Big O (Big O & Mikey Whipwreck & Stockade & Alvin Alvarez

*Jerry Lynn vs. Papadon vs. Mike Mondo in Lynn’s final Northeast match.

— CHIKARA began their “Season 12” over the weekend with shows in Reading and Easton, PA. On February 9 in Reading, CHIKARA Grand champion Eddie Kingston lost by submission in a non-title match to Green Ant with the Texas Cloverleaf, which will set up a title fight in March. Kevin Steen and the Young Bucks teamed up in a six man tag against 3.0 and Gran Akuma, which they won.

On February 10, Steen challenged Kingston for the Grand title and lost. Green Ant challenged Kingston to a title fight on March 9 in Orlando, Florida. Kingston slapped him as a result. The show also saw The Young Bucks lose the CHIKARA tag titles to 3.0 in a Best of Three Falls match.

There was also an angle where Ophidian came out during a fan giveaway when a fan won a mask of his enemy Amasis. He attacked a section of “fans” who were wearing the same match. Amasis then appeared to taunt him. Mr. Touchdown retained his Young Lions Cut over Saturyne. The storyline of the Colony and The Swarm being forced to team with each other despite being rivals by CHIKARA’s Director of Fun Wink Vavasseur continued. Delirious lost to Dasher Hatfield but attacked him after. They also teased putting Tim Donst with Veronica after he was upset with Jakob Hammermeier. Donst cut Jakob’s hair in front of the fans on February 9.
