Bryan Alvarez mentioned on Friday’s episode of the Wrestling Observer Live! that the original plans were for WWE to call up Sami Zayn to the main roster following his match with Kevin Owens at NXT Takeover: Unstoppable.
However, with him injuring his shoulder prior to that event in an RAW match with John Cena, WWE made the decision to keep Zayn down in NXT and instead to call up Owens to the main roster.
As noted, Owens has been added to several upcoming RAW TV tapings and has signed a main roster contract with WWE.
Also, Alvarez mentioned that there are some big plans in the works for Finn Balor to be called up to the main roster, but would not go into further details on those exact plans.
